Two Nailers Named to All-Star Team

WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers announce today that forwards Zenon Konopka and Chris McNamara were named to the Northern Conference Team for the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game in Estero, Florida on January 21.

Konopka, 21, and McNamara, 24, are both in their first season of professional hockey and are among 16 players on the Northern Conference All-Star roster who will be making their first all-star appearance. Konopka is currently second among ECHL rookies with 20 assists and third in scoring with 28 points. McNamara is currently tied for 11th among rookies with 22 points on 11 goals and 14 assists.

"The Nailers will be well represented at the ECHL All-Star Game with Konopka and McNamara. They have played very well in the first half of the season and their selection to the team is well deserved," said Nailers head coach John Brophy.

The Northern Conference All-Star Team is as follows (starters are in bold):

Goaltenders: Scott Stirling (Atlantic City), Dan Lombard (Richmond), Mike Smith (Lexington).

Forwards: Jason Jaffray (Roanoke), Tyler Rennette (Peoria), Kevin Colley (Atlantic City), Zenon Konopka (Wheeling), Chris McNamara (Wheeling), Jamie Herrrington (Richmond), Takahito Suzuki (Charlotte), Chris Ianiero (Dayton), Nick Parillo (Toledo), Scott Matzka (Atlantic City), Brian McCullough (Reading), Brad Rooney (Reading).

Defensemen: Simon Tremblay (Reading), Ryan Gaucher (Cincinnati), Jon Zion (Richmond), Pierre-Luc Courchesne (Johnstown), Kurt Drummond (Greensboro), David Schneider (Trenton).

Coaches: Mike Haviland (Atlantic City), Claude Noel (Toledo).
