Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads 13th home game would prove to be a lucky one as they bettered their undefeated home win streak with a win 2-1 over the Bakersfield Condors before a crowd of 3,708 at the Bank of America Centre Wednesday night.

The West Coast Hockey League's top two teams battled hard in the first game of a 3-game series. The league's number one and two goaltenders stopped 56 shots between them, with Idaho's Jason Cugnet registering 29 saves, and Bakersfield's Kevin St. Pierre saving 27.

Idaho's Jeff Shevalier scored the first goal of the game at 7:20 of the first period. Cory Morgan and Jeremy Mylymok recorded the assists.

Bakersfield's Jamie Cooke (an original Steelhead on the 1997 team) tied it up in the second period with a power play goal at 4:05, assisted by Jon Sorg and Paul Willett.

Cory Morgan scored the game-winning goal at 5:01 of the third period, assisted by Rybar and Shevalier. Both teams had a couple of chances late in the third period when Bakersfield's Guy Dupuis racked one off the post on the power play. A few seconds later, Rybar would get a shorthanded breakaway, but could not capitalize.

With tonight's win, Cugnet improves his record to 12-4-1, while St. Pierre falls to 14-4-2.

Tonight's game marked the second contest between the two teams this season; they have each won on home ice. They meet again Friday night at 7:05.
