Greensboro Generals News Release

Greensboro, NC — The Greensboro Generals overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Columbia Inferno on "Teddy Bear Toss" night. The Generals improved to 17-6-2 with the victory, but they could not pull into a tie for first place, with the division leading Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies also winning tonight.

The Generals saw themselves down by a pair just 6:35 into the game on goals from Columbia's Matt Ulwelling and Barrie Moore. But the fans didn't have to wait long to throw their teddy bears on the ice, as Sam Ftorek netted a power play goal with just 14 seconds left in the first period to close the gap to one, creating a sea of stuffed animals on the ice.

The game remained 2-1 until the third period, when the Generals erupted for three unanswered goals. David Whitworth tied the game at the 4:34 mark of the final frame, and Vlad Serov scored two straight power play goals, including what proved to be a valuable insurance goal with 2:12 remaining, giving the Generals a 4-2 advantage. Columbia added a goal with 1:10 left in the contest, but they never threatened in the final minute in their attempt to send the game to overtime.

The Generals collected over 300 bears for tonight's "Teddy Bear Toss." Generals players will hand-deliver the bears to children staying in the pediatric ward of Moses Cone Hospital tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

The Generals begin a home-and-home series with the Richmond Renegades this weekend, playing at Richmond on Friday at 7:35 and hosting them on Saturday at 7:30. The Generals will "White Out" the competition with the help of Hanes on Saturday. The first one thousand fans in the building will receive a Hanes tagless t-shirt and a sharpie. The shirts and sharpies can be put to good use after the game, with Generals players holding an autograph session after the game. Ticket prices range from $10.00 - $17.00, with tickets as low as $8.00 for students and seniors. Generals Flex Plans for six, twelve, and 18 games are also available for as little as $50.00. Fans can receive season ticket and other information by clicking on the Generals team website, www.greensborogenerals.com.
