Nick Parillo Selected As All-Star
December 18, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm of the East Coast Hockey League today announced that left wing, Nick Parillo, has been selected to represent the Storm at the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition at TECO Arena in Estero, Florida, on January 20-21. This season with the Storm, Parillo has scored 10 goals, added 14 assists, and picked up 66 penalty minutes in twenty-two games. Parillo's twenty-four points is tied for the team lead with Alexandre Jacques.
With respect to Parillo's selection, Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel, Claude Noel, stated, "we're extremely happy for Nick. We've always felt that he is a special player. He has tremendous natural athletic abilities, not the least of which is his speed and quickness. He also has an element of toughness to his game that makes it possible for him to play this game at the highest level. Nick is one of many players on our team who have made substantial contributions to the success of our club, and we trust that he will enjoy this moment and use it as a springboard for continued advancements in his career.
Parillo, (25) a first year pro out of Schenectady, New York, played his college hockey at Merrimack College, where he racked up 34 points in 34 games in his senior season. After completing his collegiate career last year, Parillo jumped to the American Hockey League, playing two late season games with the Rochester Americans before being re-assigned to the Trenton Titans for the final four games of the ECHL season. In those games, Parillo scored three goals. In fact, in his first ECHL game, he scored a goal, got in a fight, and racked up 19 penalty minutes, including a game misconduct.
This season with the Storm, Parillo has had six multi-point performances, including a four-point (1g-3a) game against the Wheeling Nailers on November 2. During one stretch, Parillo went on a six game point streak (from the 1st of November through the 22nd), racking up eleven points (3g-8a=11pts) in that span. Parillo has also picked up six major penalties, including one in a nice tilt with J.P. Soucy of the Nailers in the Storm's last game on December 14. Among his ten goals, Parillo has had three game winners, two power play goals, and twice has scored the game' first goal. Parillo's twenty-four points currently ties him for seventh place in the scoring race amongst first year players. His (+15) rating places him in second amongst rookies in that category. Prior to this season, Parillo attended the Detroit Red Wings' training camp, and thus far, he has earned one call up to the AHL playing three games with the Milwaukee Admirals in mid-November.
