Courchesne Named to All-Star Team

Johnstown, PA- The East Coast Hockey League announced today the 2003 Northern Conference All-Star team. Johnstown Chiefs rookie defenseman Pierre-Luc Courchesne will be the Chiefs lone representative.

"P.L. deserves this honor. From day 1 of him arriving in Johnstown, he has improved with each day. He is quickly becoming one of the league's top defenseman. The entire Chiefs organization is very happy for P.L. and we wish him luck in Florida," said Chiefs Head Coach Toby O'Brien.

The 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game will be played at 7:30 p.m. ET on January 21. The game and the skills competition on January 20 will be hosted by the Florida Everblades at TECO Arena in Estero, Florida.

The starting lineups were determined in voting by Northern Conference coaches, team captains, media relations directors, team broadcasters and newspaper writers. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference that determined the final roster with each of the 14 teams in the Northern Conference is represented.

Courchesne, 21, has appeared in all 28 games for the Chiefs this season scoring 7 goals, including four on the power play, and 13 points. The 6'1, 210 LBS native of Nicolet, PQ signed with the Chiefs on August 23rd.

Prior to coming to Johnstown, Courchesne spent five years with the Sherbrooke Castors of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 323 career games with Sherbrooke he had 49 goals, and 156 assists (205 PTS). Courchesne was a QMJHL all-star during the 2000-01 season. He was brought to Johnstown last March at the conclusion of his junior season but was unable to suit up in a Chiefs uniform because of immigration problems.
