Three 'Gades Named to All-Star Roster

Richmond, VA – Three Richmond Renegades rookies have been selected to play in the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All Star Game in January. Goalie Dan Lombard, LW Jamie Herrington, and D Jon Zion will play for the Northern Conference in the January 21 game at Estero, FL.

Lombard, a rookie out of Yale, has twice been a runner up for ECHL Goalie of the Week. He is eighth in the league with a 2.57 goals against average. The Andover, MA native has one shutout and a save percentage of .906.

Herrington has 11 goals and 25 points in 26 games. He is sixth in the league in rookie scoring. Herrington leads the Renegades with a +14 rating. The rookie from Dartmouth is tied for the club lead in shorthanded goals with two. He is a native of Cornwall, ON.

Zion is currently on loan to Cincinnati of the AHL. He leads Renegades defensemen with 21 points in 24 games. Zion, a rookie from Ottawa of the OHL, is fourth in the ECHL in assists by a rookie and is tied for sixth in the league in scoring by a defenseman. The former Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick (#4 '99, 110 overall) is a native of Nepean, ON.

This marks the fifth straight year that the ‘Gades have had three players selected for the All Star Game (Ryan Kraft, Joe Blaznek, and Maxime Gingras '99; Ryan Kraft, Pete Vandermeer, and Sean Matile '00; Blaznek, Richard Pitirri, and Brian McCullough, who replaced the injured Blaznek '01; Lars Pettersen, Garrett Prosofsky, and Rastislav Stana, who missed the game due to an AHL call-up ‘02). No ECHL club has had more All Star selections over that time. Kraft, who saw time with the San Jose Sharks this season, Vandermeer, and Stana have moved up to the AHL.

Renegades flagship station Cat Country 100.3 will carry the radio broadcast of the All Star Game. Game time is 7:30 PM. The selected ‘Gades will also take part in the Skills Competition on January 20.

The ‘Gades are home Friday to host the Greensboro Generals at 7:35. All kids 15 and under will be admitted free with a paying adult. For more information please call the Renegades office at 643-7825.
