Tough Week For Lynx
December 13, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx suffered their worst offensive output in team history this week, getting blanked in two of three games and unable to manage a point in all three. The team's record scoreless streak started with their only goal in a 3-1 loss to Greenville last Sunday at the 7:15 mark of the second period, and extended until the Lynx scored a power play goal against Charlotte Saturday night at the 5:32 mark of the second period. In all, the drought lasted for 178:17 of game play over four games.
Tuesday night the Lynx were blanked by the Louisiana IceGators, with Nathan Marsters stopping 16 shots after taking over for Kerry Kettles, who was removed from the game just 3:55 in with a possible injury. Kettles did not face a shot in the contest. Jason Saal made 28 saves in the loss for Augusta.
Similarly, the Pee Dee Pride managed to shut out the Lynx 3-0 on Friday night. Nick Boucher stopped 34 shots for the victory while Saal managed 30 saves for Augusta. Mark Mullen had a pair of goals to lead the Pride attack in the contest.
Saturday night Augusta finally got off the slide and started scoring goals. A power play marker by Matt Dzieduszycki tied the game at 1-1 early in the second period, followed by a spectacular shorthanded effort from Jamie Johnson to knot the game back at 2-2. Charlotte would extend their lead to 4-2 before the intermission, and in the third the Lynx struggled to come back. Sean Connolly's goal at 14:15 gave Augusta life, but they were unable to tie the game before time expired. Jason Saal left the game after the first period, making 14 saves on 15 shots. Matus Kostur replaced him to start the second and made 18 saves in the loss. Kelly Guard notched the win with 32 saves for Charlotte.

The Lynx battle the Everblades for the first two times this weekend. Both meetings will come on the road in Florida and bring Augusta's pre-Christmas portion of the schedule to an end. All-time, Augusta is 13-22-6 vs. the Everblades, and looking to improve not only on that stat, but their overall won/loss record as well. This year the Lynx are 5-6-0 on the road this season, but overall stand 7-13-2 heading into the contest.
Florida is coming off a pair of losses to the South Carolina Stingrays this past weekend, bringing to an end their season-high six game win streak from 11/27 to 12/7. Matt Hendricks leads the team in scoring with 11 goals and 23 points. Brad Church is the team's top plus/minus guy at +17 in 20 games this year, and he also ranks third on the club in scoring with eight goals and 18 points. In net, Craig Kowalski (8-5-0, 2.63, .915) and Rob Zepp (4-6-0, 3.05, .894) have split the duties for Florida, with Kowalski taking the lions share of the work in recent days. Both are capable goaltenders, and the Lynx know firsthand how tough Zepp can be when he's on his game after he bested them twice last year 4-3 and 5-2.
The Everblades sit fourth in the American Conference with a 12-11-0 record this year, good for 24 points. An even 6-6-0 at home, Florida is 6-5-0 on the road heading into this weekend.
