Louisiana ends road trip, heads home for 5 games in 6 days

Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana IceGators finished a grueling road trip through the East Division with a record of 1-2-1. As the team approaches a 5 games in 6 days challenge this week, the IceGators sit in 4th place in the South Division with 23 points. The Gators have played fewer games than every team in the division with the exception of Pensacola.

Last Week

On Tuesday night, The Louisiana IceGators made it two wins in a row over the Augusta Lynx and three in a row overall, as Louisiana allowed only 16 shots on net en-route to a 3-0 victory. Rookie Nathan Marsters stopped all 16 shots after coming in just 3:55 into the first period. David Bararuk, Shawn Skiehar and Randy Dagenais scored for Louisiana.

Wednesday night, the Gators fell to the Charlotte Checkers 3-2 in the Cricket Arena in Charlotte as the IceGators lost for the first time on the road since October 22. Pascal Pelletier and Chris Thompson scored for Louisiana and Nathan Marsters stopped 24-27 in the losing effort.

Friday night, in a battle of two red-hot goaltenders, Mike Minard outdueled rookie Nathan Marsters as the Columbia Inferno defeated the Louisiana IceGators 2-1 in a shoot out. David Bararuk scored in the 1st period for Louisiana, while locked out Buffalo Sabre, Eric Boulton lit the lamp in the 3rd for Columbia. For the game, Marsters stopped 31 of 32 Inferno shots, Minard was 21 of 22 in net for Columbia.

Saturday night, The Louisiana IceGators ended a 5 games in 8 days road trip with a 4-0 loss at the hands of the PeeDee Pride. Nick Boucher of the Pride getting his 2nd shut out in two nights as Louisiana finished the trip with a record of 2-2-1.

The Nominees are: The IceGators nominees for ECHL weekly awards are Left Wing Chris Thompson and Goaltender Nathan Marsters.

The Week Ahead

The IceGators play five games in six nights as the team continues through a 16 game schedule in December.

Tuesday, December 14 & Wednesday Dec 15: Gwinnett Gladiators at IceGators 7:05pm

These game will mark the third and fourth meetings of the season between these two teams at the Cajundome. Louisiana has won the first game 4-2 but was embarrassed 7-0 in the 2nd meeting. Both games will be Toy Drive Nights as any fan bringing an unwrapped, new toy to the game will receive a $2.50 discount of any regular priced ticket.

Friday, December 17: Texas Wildcatters at IceGators 7:05pm

This will be the fourth matchup between these division rivals. The IceGators lead the series 3-1 with the home team winning only once in the 4 contests. On December 3, Nathan Marsters gained his 1st pro shut out with a 3-0 victory in the Cajundome. This night will be Teddy Bear Toss night. As fans are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped stuffed animal to the game and throw it on the ice after the first Gators goal. All toys collected will be distributed locally. Fans will receive a $2.50 discount for donating a stuffed animal.

Saturday, December 18: IceGators at Pensacola Ice Pilots 7:05pm

The only road trip of the week begins a home and home series with the rival Ice Pilots. Louisiana won the only Pensacola meeting between the clubs 6-4, on November 5 in Todd Gordon’s return to “the Hangar”.

Sunday, December 19: Pensacola Pensacola at IceGators 5:05pm

The first 3 games in 3 days weekend for the Gators ends in a Sunday showdown with Dave Farrish’s club. Pensacola has won both games here this season. Frederic Cloutier stopping 54-55 shots on November 30, for a 2-1 Ice Pilots final. Every Sunday is “Family Fun Day” with “Bouncing Buddies Jumps” for the kids for the IceGators and post game skates with the entire team.

Broadcast Info All games this week can be heard on 960am “The Gator”. In addition to the radio broadcasts, all games can be heard via the internet at www.icegators.com. All games his week will have a video webcast available through the B2 Network and IceGators.com.

Project MAMA

For the entire season the Gators are encouraging fans to participate in the Project MAMA.A list of supplies needed by our local troops serving overseas is listed at www.icegators.com. The team will have drop off points at the Cajundome for every home game and the effort will culminate in two Armed Forces Nights, December 19, 2004 and March 20, 2005. On those nights children of our deployed troops will have a special day of IceGators hockey complete with a tour of the locker room and a picture with their favorite player. That picture along with supplies will be sent to loved ones overseas. Notes

On Sunday, the IceGators announced that Marius Holtet has been recalled to the Houston Aeros. In four games with the Gators, the Dallas Stars 2nd round pick in 2002, had no points and no penalty minutes.

Rookie netminder Nathan Marsters continues to play solid between the pipes. The 2004 graduate of RPI has a record of 5-3-2 with a 2.06 GAA and a save percentage of .937.

Power Outage Being back in the Frozen Swamp and away from the small rinks of the East Division may bring some spark back to the Gators offense. The team scored three goals during the last three games of the road trip and has not scored a power play goal during that time.

Community News: Practice Schedule

The IceGators will practice all week, except for Saturday, at the Cajundome beginning at 10AM. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday will be shorter “pregame” skates. Practice time for Sunday has yet to be determined.
