Durham Bulls News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Bulls first baseman Tristan Gray smashed his twenty-fourth home run of the season, while Tides starting pitcher Justin Armbruester fired five scoreless innings and Norfolk first baseman Coby Mayo's two-run double highlighted a three-run fifth inning in a 3-1 victory over Durham on Wednesday evening at Harbor Park.
The Bulls and Tides held each other scoreless until the fifth, when Norfolk broke through with a three-spot. 2B Connor Norby came plateward on a wild pitch before Mayo blooped a two-run double into right field to extend the advantage to 3-0. Gray would end the Tides' shutout hopes in the seventh with a 433-foot solo shot to center field that smashed off the scoreboard. Durham would threaten in the ninth by putting the tying run on base, however were unable to erase their deficit.
Armbruester (5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 SO) earned the victory with his five scoreless innings of work, while southpaw DL Hall (1.0 IP, 2 BB, 3 SO) notched the save. Bulls reliever Carlos Garcia (2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to continue their six-game series on Thursday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 12:05pm. RHP Nathan Wiles is anticipated to get the nod for Durham and be opposed by LHP Bruce Zimmermann.
The Bulls return home to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, August 29 to begin a six-game homestand with the Nashville Sounds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch is set for 6:35pm.
Tickets for that game and all remaining 2023 Durham Bulls home games are available, and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com, or by calling 919.956.BULL.
