THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS...

The Portland Pirates (Washington) are 6th in the Atlantic Division with 24 points and a 10-10-2-2 record... The Pirates are coming off a 3-2 loss to Worcester on Sunday. Portland is 2-4-2-1 on the road but are 2-0-0-0 against the Maple Leafs so far this season ... This will be the final two meetings betweeen these two teams during the regular season... Portland is ranked 9th overall in the AHL with the man advantage at a 17.6% success rate and are 22nd overall while penalty killing at 81.8%... Center Trent Whitfield has the hot hand for the Pirates tallying six points (3G,3A) in his last five games. Whitfield also leads the team in scoring with 22 points (8G,14A) in 24 games this season...

The Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit) are tied for 1st in the West Division with 31 points and have a 14-5-1-0 record... The Griffins are a prefect 7-0-0-0 on the road this season and are currently riding a four-game winning streak... Grand Rapids is ranked 10th overall while on the powerplay at 16.9% and are 2nd in the AHL while killing penalties at 91%... Goaltender Joey MacDonald is ranked 6th in the league with a 1.79 GAA, a 12-5-0 record, with four shutouts and a .939 save percentage... Defenceman Niklas Kronwall leads the Griffins with 20 points (7G,13A) in 21 games this season... This will be the first of four meeting this season between these two teams... Grand Rapids owns the all-time series against the Leafs with 3-0-1 record.

- The Maple Leafs are 7-3-0-0 in their last 10 games and are coming off a 6-2 loss to Syracuse last Saturday.

- The St. John's Maple Leafs will be hosting their 11th Annual St. John's Maple Leafs Wives' Charity Carnival this Sunday, December 12th at Mile One Stadium.

- St. John's will play four games in five nights starting Tuesday before hitting the road next Monday.

- The Maple Leafs are in 6th place overall in the Western Conference and 9th overall in the AHL.

MAPLE LEAFS TO WATCH...

Mikael Tellqvist: Tellqvist has a 9-5-1 reocrd,a 2.58 GAA and a .917 save percentage this season. Tellqvist had a seven game winning streak snapped Sat. vs Syracuse.

Carlo Colaiacovo: Colaiacovo had a goal and two assists last week. Colaiacovo leads Maple Leafs defenceman with 13 points (3G,10A) in 20 games.

David Ling: Ling had three points (G,2A) last week. Ling is 2nd in team scoring with 25 points (8G,17A) in 23 games this season.

Harold Druken: Druken led the team with four points (2G,2A) in three games last week. Druken is averaging a point per game (9G,9A) in 18 games this season.

Nathan Perrott: Perrott is currrently on a two game goal scoring streak. Perrott has 14 points including seven goals in 20 games this season.

KID'S WEEKEND, DECMEBER 10-12, 2004

On Friday, come join Scotsburn and the St. John's Maple Leafs as we celebrate Buddy the Puffin's Birthday.

On Saturday, the Maple Leafs will host The NTV Teddy Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring along a teddy bear to toss onto the ice during the 2nd intermision.

The 11th Annual St. John's Maple Leafs Wives' Charity Carnival will take place at Mile One Staduim, Sunday from 1:00- 5:00pm.

NEXT WEEK'S OPPONENTS...

St. John's will visit the Cleveland Barons for the first time this season on December 14 at 9:05pm (NT). The Game will be broadcast LIVE on Radio NL and sjmapleleafs.ca.

The Leafs will be seeking revenge when they visit the Rochester Americans Friday December 17th at 9:05pm (NT).

St. John's will take on the Binghamton Senators next Saturday, December 18th at 8:35pm (NT) in their final game before Christmas.

DID YOU KNOW...

- The St. John's Maple Leafs played in front of the largest regular season AHL crowd on Canadian soil (17,422). The Maple Leafs defeated the Binghamton Senators 3-2 last Saturday at the ACC in Toronto.

- The St. John's Maple Leafs Wives Charity Carnival has raised over $200,000 in 10 seasons for local charities throughout NL.

THIS WEEK IN LEAFS HISTORY...

December 6, 1991 - Dave Tomlinson scores the second hat trick in franchise history as the Leafs bury the Cape Breton Oilers 8-4 at Centre 200 in Sydney.

December 6, 1996 - Mark Kolesar and Shayne Toporowski each net a pair to lead the Leafs to a 5-2 win over the Binghamton Rangers at Memorial Stadium.

December 10, 2003 - Veteran Clarke Wilm scores twice and sets up another to lead the Leafs to a penalty filled 5-1 romp over Rochester and a two game sweep.

MAPLE LEAFS PLAYER OF THE WEEK...

The St. John's Maple Leafs have nominated forward Harold Druken as the St. John's Maple Leafs Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 5th. In three games last week, Druken tallied four points (2G,2A) was a +1 and had 9 shots on net to help lead the Maple Leafs to a 2-1-0-0.

On Wednesday, Druken scored a highlight reel goal on a splapshot at 5:32 of the second frame to give the Maple Leafs a 2-1 lead over Binghamton. The Leafs won the game 3-2. On Friday, Druken had two assists, he helped set up Colaiacovo's third of the season and first goal of the game. Druken also helped set up the game winner on a one-timer by David Ling at 5:51 of the third period. The Leafs swept the two game set over Binghamton that saw over 27,000 fans take in the contests at the ACC in Toronto.
