
Norfolk wins two of three on the road

NORFOLK, VA - The Admirals won two of three road contests last week to remain in second place in the East Division. On Wednesday, December 1st, Michael Leighton made 21 stops to blank the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 1-0. Norfolk handed Philadelphia its first home loss of the season as Pavel Vorobiev scored on a breakaway with 42 seconds left in overtime to give the Admirals a 2-1 win on December 4th. Norfolk's three-game winning streak came to a halt as the Ads fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-2 on Sunday, December 5th.
Norfolk finishes its road trip today at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Admirals return home to Scope to face the Lowell Lock Monsters twice this weekend.
STANDINGS
Norfolk is currently second in the East with 31 points (14-8-1-2). Philadelphia (18-3-1-0, 37 pts) is in first place. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (10-6-4-3, 27 pts) is third followed by Binghamton (11-10-2-2, 26 pts), Bridgeport (12-10-0-0, 24 pts), Albany (7-10-4-2, 20 points) and Hershey (9-14-1-0, 19 pts) in last place.

The Admirals will continue collecting non-perishable food items to benefit The Food Bank at Scope through December 15. Drop off items in the collection bins by the entrances to Scope. Friday, December 10 (Lowell Lock Monsters)
· Joy Fund Night - The Admirals will make a donation from each individual and group ticket sold that night to The Virginian-Pilot's Joy Fund. Plus, the players' wives and girlfriends will be offering wrapped autographed holiday ornaments on the concourse for a $20 donation, with specially colored ornaments winning prizes ranging from Admirals tickets to other autographed items. There will also be a silent auction on an ECHL jersey of former Hampton Roads Admiral Alain Savage. Proceeds will benefit the Joy Fund.
· STIHL Hometown Hero - STIHL and the Admiral will honor December's "Hometown Hero" with a special presentation before the game. Saturday, December 11 (Lowell Lock Monsters)
· Pre-game Party at AJ Gator's - The first pre-game party of the season at AJ Gator's, 244 Granby St. in Norfolk. For $15, receive a blue level ticket, buffet and two drinks before the game, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tickets available at the Scope Box Office. Season ticket holders, call the Admirals office for special discount.
· 5th Annual Toy Toss - This popular holiday event is back for a fifth season. Bring a new plush toy to the game and when the Admirals score their first goal of the night, toss it onto the ice. Toys will be donated to the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters (CHKD) and the Ronald McDonald House.
(If the Admirals don't score, the toy toss will take place after the game once the players exit the ice.) Wednesday, December 15 (Manchester Monarchs)
· When the top team in the AHL comes to town, this game will feature a special 12:15 p.m. face off.
ADMIRALS NOTEBOOK
· Norfolk's 2-1 overtime win at Philadelphia on December 4th was its first win in the extra period in an opposing venue since November 9, 2002 at Binghamton
· Saturday's win over Philadelphia also marked the first time in six games this season the Admirals have come from behind when trailing after two periods
· Norfolk has outscored its opponents 19-8 in the first period this season, but has been outscored 22-18 in the second period and 21-18 in the third stanza
· Shawn Thornton played in his 200th game as an Admiral December 4th at Philadelphia
· Matt Ellison registered an assist on December 5th, his first point in 10 games since November 14
· James Wisniewski scored his first professional career goal at Wilkes-Barre on Sunday
