Milwaukee Admirals News Release
OVERALL... The Admirals (14-3-2-1) enter this week's action tied with the Grand Rapids Griffins for first place in the AHL's West Division. The Ads (.775) enter tonight's game with the third best winning percentage in the AHL behind Manchester (.932) and Philadelphia (.841).
THE WEEK AHEAD...
@ROCHESTER...This game is a rematch of last season's Western Conference Finals. The last time the Admirals played in Rochester they skated away with a 4-1 victory and the AHL's Western Conference Championship. This is the second and final meeting between the clubs during the 2004-05 season. The Ads posted a 5-4 overtime victory over the Amerks in Nashville on October 16th. This is the eighth regular season meeting between Milwaukee and Rochester with the Admirals posting 5-1-0-1 mark in the previous seven games.
@SYRACUSE...Saturday's contest is the fifth ever meeting between the Ads and the Crunch. Milwaukee is 3-1 lifetime vs. the Crunch, including 1-1 in Syracuse. The two teams split their two match-ups last season with each team holding serve on their home ice. The Ads blanked Syracuse, 2-0 on October 31, 2003 behind Brian Finley's 19-save performance and lost 8-6 in Syracuse on January 28th, 2004. The other two meetings between the two clubs took place during the 2001-02 season; Milwaukee and Syracuse did not play each other during 2002-03.
@PHILADELPHIA...After losing the first two games of the season the Phantoms reeled off an AHL record 17 straight victories. Syracuse ended the streak with a 2-1 victory on November 28th. The Admirals are 3-1-0-2 lifetime vs. the Phantoms, including 2-1 at the Bradley Center. Last season, the Phantoms posted a 4-3 overtime victory in Philadelphia on January 31st and the Admirals were victorious on February 28th, 5-2, at the Bradley Center.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN...The Admirals hit the road again this week, this time traveling to the East Coast. The Ads just returned from a trip to Utah and then up into Canada for games against Edmonton and Manitoba. On that trip Milwaukee finished with a 4-1-1-0 mark, setting a franchise record for the highest winning percentage on a six-game or greater road trip.
LAST WEEK'S GAMES...On Saturday night, the Ads battled back from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1, and pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Wolves. Wyatt Smith's powerplay goal at the 14:53 mark of the third period proved to be the game winner. Simon Gamache continued his hot play, posting three points on a goal and two assists. On Friday night the Grand Rapids Griffins blanked the Admirals, 1-0 at the Bradley Center. Todd Robinson scored on the power play at the 4:42 mark in the second period and Joey MacDonald stopped 32 shots for the Griffins. Brian Finley stopped 24 of 25 shots for Milwaukee.
LAST SHUTOUTS...Prior to Friday's game, the Admirals hadn't been shutout on home ice since Tyler Moss blanked the Admirals on March 19, 2003, 2-0. The Ads were shutout only once in 2003-04 when Manitoba's Alex Auld won 3-0 in Manitoba on March 2, 2004.
1-0 x 14...Friday night's game was the 14th, 1-0 game in Admirals franchise history. The most recent was on October 29th when Brian Finley blanked the Grizzlies in Utah. The Admirals are 6-7-0-1 lifetime in 1-0 games.
WHEN YOU'RE HOT, YOU'RE HOT... Simon Gamache has put together an impressive streak as of late, posting 16 (4g-12a) points in his last ten contests, giving him 27 on the year and ranking him seventh in the AHL. The 5-10, 185-pound left wing played a vital role in the Ads run to the Calder Cup last season as he finished second in the league in playoff scoring, behind linemate Darren Haydar.
LEADERS AT A GLANCE...Gamache tops the Ads roster in goals (10), assists (17), and points (27) and power play goals (7). Andrew Hutchinson tops defenseman scoring with 17 points and also 13 assists. Timofei Shishakanov is second among Admirals goal scorers with eight, including three game winners. Hamhuis leads the Ads with a +10 plus/minus rating.
