Sound Tigers Win Two Of Three

The Sound Tigers opened a four-game home-stand by winning two out of three games at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard last week. After being shutout 1-0 by the Norfolk Admirals Wednesday morning, they beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-3 Friday and the Lowell Lock Monsters 2-1 Saturday. The Sound Tigers finished last week in fifth place in the East Division with 24 points and a 12-10 record, including 10-2 at home, 2-8 on the road and 6-4 in the last ten games.

WED DEC 1st vs. NOR, 1-0 L: Playing the second-annual "Cool Fun 101" educationally-themed morning game that began at 11:05 a.m. in front of 5,061 fans, most of them school children from Bridgeport and the surrounding communities, the Sound Tigers saw a number of home-ice marks-- five straight wins, 4-0 when trailing after two periods and 6-0 when outshot --come to an end. Norfolk's JASON MORGAN scored the game's only goal, on the power play, 3:32 into the first period. Admirals Goaltender MICHAEL LEIGHTON made 21 saves for his second shutout of the season. WADE DUBIELEWICZ made 24 saves in a losing effort. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 4 on the power play while Norfolk was 1 for 6 and had a 25-21 shots on goal advantage.

FRI DEC 3rd vs. WIL, 4-3 W: The Sound Tigers jumped out to a 2-1 lead by the end of the first period on goals by SEAN BERGENHEIM, power play, and STEVE REGIER and upped their lead to 4-1 early in the middle frame on a pair of goals by ROB COLLINS, one at four-on-four strength and another on the advantage. Just 25 seconds after the goals by Collins, a brawl broke out resulting in penalties to 11 players, including seven game misconducts and one double game misconduct. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton pulled to within 4-3 by the end of the second period but could not tie the game. The Sound Tigers were 2 for 7 on the power play while the Penguins were 2 for 11 and had a 32-26 shots on goal advantage.

SAT DEC 4th vs. LOW, 2-1 W: KEVIN COLLEY scored 1:46 into the game to trigger the annual "Holiday Teddy Bear Toss", and JUSTIN MAPLETFOT added the eventual game-winner, on the power play, early in the second period. DIETER KOCHAN made 19 saves. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 3 on the power play, 5 for 5 on the penalty kill and had a 25-20 shots on goal advantage, including 13-3 in the middle frame marking the fewest shots against they have allowed in a single period at home so far this season.

SOUND TIGERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – RW ROB COLLINS Collins earned his second nomination in as many weeks by notching points in each of last week's wins. The Peterborough, Ontario native had two goals, one assist and three points and was a +2 in three games last week and finished the week with points (4g,4a) in six of the last seven games. Collins ended the week second on the team with six goals and eight assists and third overall among the Sound Tigers' leading scorers with 14 points in 21 games.

THIS WEEK – Two Games In Two Nights vs. Manchester & Hershey

The Sound Tigers will end the four-game home-stand when they host the AHL's overall standings leaders, the Manchester Monarchs, this Friday. They will visit the Hershey Bears this Saturday.

FRI DEC 10th vs. MCH, 7:35 p.m.: This will be the second of four meetings of the teams this season, the first of two in Bridgeport. The Sound Tigers are 5-5-3 all-time, 0-1 so far this year and 1-1 at home last season, versus Manchester. The Monarchs are in first place in the overall League standings with 41 points and a 20-1-1 record, including 10-1 on the road. They had a franchise-record, 13-game winning streak snapped with a 4-3 overtime loss at home to the Hartford Wolf Pack Sunday. Manchester finished last week with the AHL's top-ranked power play at 22.2%. and boasting the League's two leading scorers, MICHAEL CAMMALLERI with 37 points and YANICK LEHOUX with 36 points, as well as the top three plus-minus players, JOE RULLIER at +22, TOM KOSTOPOULOS at +19 and NOAH CLARKE +18. Cammalleri also leads the AHL with 20 goals and ten power-play goals while Kostopoulos is tops with five game-winners. The Monarchs do not play again until Friday.

SAT DEC 11th at HER, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the second of eight meetings of the teams this season, the second of four in Hershey where the Sound Tigers won 4-1 on November 20th. The Sound Tigers are 5-7-3 all-time, 1-0 this season, versus the Bears who finished last week in seventh place in the East Division with 19 points and a 9-14-1 record, including 4-5-1 at home. Hershey will finish a stretch of five straight road games Friday versus the Philadelphia Phantoms.

SOUND TIGERS STREAKS

The Sound Tigers have won two straight games both overall and at home. • D CHRIS CAMPOLI (2a) and C JUSTIN PAPINEAU (2a) are on two-game assist streaks. • RW ROB COLLINS (2g,1a), RW SEAN BERGENHEIM (1g,1a) and C JUSTIN MAPLETOFT (1g,1a) are on two-game point streaks.

SOUND TIGERS TRANSACTIONS

The Sound Tigers released RW JOHN MORLANG and RW BLAKE BELLEFEUILLE from their professional tryout contracts last Wednesday. Morlang signed a PTO Friday, November 26th while Bellefeuille signed last Tuesday. • C BRETT NOWAK signed a PTO last Tuesday.

Individual-game tickets can be purchased at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard box office, which is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. weekdays. The box office also opens at 11 a.m. on weekend game days and stays open until the end of the first period during all games. Individual-game tickets can also be purchased over the phone by calling Ticketmaster at 203-368-1000 and on-line at www.ticketmaster.com. • The Port Jefferson offers a ticket and ferry-fare package, as well as special round-trip fares for Long Island fans who will be attending games in Bridgeport. The last ferry will also depart Bridgeport later on all Fridays and Saturdays the Sound Tigers play at home.

The Sound Tigers are scheduled to practice at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard at 10 a.m. this Monday through Friday. The team will leave for Hershey immediately following this Friday's home game versus Manchester.
