Matteucci Hangs Up His Skates

Milwaukee Admirals Executive Vice-President/General Manager Phil Wittliff announced today that defenseman Mike Matteucci has retired, ending a career that spanned ten seasons and six different professional teams. The Admirals also announced that they have recalled defenseman Kevin Klein from Rockford (UHL).

Matteucci played in 15 games for the Admirals this year, posting two points (1g-1a) and 45 penatly minutes. Over his career, the 6-2, 210-pound blueliner played in 608 professional games, scoring 14 goals and dishing out 57 assists for 71 points and also accumulating 1,549 PIMs.

Matteucci began his professional career with the Los Angeles/Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL, accumulating 942 PIMs in five seasons with the Dogs. He followed with stints in Cleveland, Houston, and Albany before playing with the Ads this season. A Lake Superior State University alum, Matteucci saw action in six NHL games with the Minnesota Wild, registering four penalty minutes.

"Mike provided outstanding leadership for us while he was here, both on the ice and in the locker room," noted Admirals Head Coach Claude Noel.

Klein, a second round pick of the Nashville Predators, has five points (2g-3a) in 14 games thus far this year with the Admirals. The rookie blueliner scored two goals and registered one assist in three games with Rockford over the weekend.
