Published on December 6, 2004 under American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins begin the week tied for fourth place in the Atlantic Division with their 10-10-2-2 record (24 points). The Black and Gold is tied with the Lowell Lock Monsters and Portland Pirates, two points behind the Worcester IceCats. Head coach Scott Gordon's club is coming off a 6-2 victory over the Hershey Bears on Sunday, a game in which the Bruins' power play unit connected on five of its seven opportunities. The five power play goals marked a new AHL single-game high for this season, and moved the Bruins' man-advantage unit into second place in the league (26/188; 22.0%). The Bruins' 26 power play goals tie them for the second-highest total in the league.
Bruin center Patrice Bergeron posted 2-2-4 totals over the weekend, including two power play goals on Sunday. The 19-year-old native of Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec is now tied with fellow center Brad Boyes for the team scoring lead. Boyes has 10-14-24 totals in 24 games, while Bergeron has 9-15-24 totals in 21 games. Both players are among several who are tied for 11th in AHL scoring overall. Bergeron, at 19 years old, is the youngest player in the AHL this season, one year after being the youngest player in the NHL while posting 16-23-39 totals in 71 games with the Boston Bruins. Bergeron's five-point night (2-3-5) in a 7-1 win at Portland on November 20 tied him with teammate Andy Hilbert and two other players for the league's highest single-game output this season.
The Bruins will play four games this week, two on home ice. The action begins on Wednesday, December 8 at 7:00 p.m., when the Bruins visit the Albany River Rats. They return home to host the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday, December 10 at 7:05 p.m., before visiting the Worcester IceCats the next night at 7:05 p.m. The busy week concludes on Sunday, December 12 at 4:05 p.m., when the East Division's Binghamton Senators make their only appearance of the season in Rhode Island.
Friday will be Stanley Bostich Night, with all children 14 years old and under receiving a free Providence Bruins Buggles stapler, pencil sharpener or hole punch. On Sunday, fans will have the opportunity to receive autographs from Bruin forward Jay Henderson and defenseman Chris Dyment following the game. Both players will be signing autographs free of charge on the Dunkin' Donuts Center concourse behind Section 110. The autograph session will be sponsored by Brooksie's Sports Bar & Grill.
This weekend will also mark the start of the Bruins' Toys for Tots drive. Bruins wives and girlfriends will be collecting unopened toys in the Dunkin' Donuts Center box office lobby prior to the start of Friday's and Sunday's games. Toys will be collected on Friday from 5:45 to 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 2:45 to 4:00 p.m. Toys will also be collected at the game on Friday, December 17 from 5:45 to 7:00 p.m. All toys collected will be donated to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.
