Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - The American Hockey League announced today that Manchester Monarchs left wing Jeff Tambellini has been named the Rbk Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month for November. Tambellini tore up the AHL in November, posting 12 goals and eight assists for 20 points, along with a plus-9 rating, in 12 games for the surging Monarchs. Tambellini recorded a goal and two assists, the first of his four three-point nights on the month, in a 7-5 win at Bridgeport on Nov. 4. Six days later, he scored twice in the final 1:56 of regulation to help the Monarchs to a 6-5 shootout win at Springfield, one of his four multiple-goal games in November. Tambellini recorded a point in nine straight contests from Nov. 10-26, including a six-game goal-scoring streak that matches the longest such run in the AHL this season. To cap the month, Tambellini was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings and made his NHL debut vs. Chicago on Nov. 30.

In recognition of his achievement, Tambellini will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Monarchs home game.

Born in Calgary where his dad, Steve, played part of his nine-year NHL career with the Flames, the 21-year-old Tambellini was a first-round draft pick (27th overall) by Los Angeles in 2003, and starred the last three seasons at the University of Michigan. His 14 goals and 25 points in 18 games this season are currently tied for the AHL lead among rookies, and he ranks second on the Monarchs with a plus-11 rating in 18 games played.

Other nominees for Rbk Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month include Binghamton right wing Patrick Eaves, Bridgeport center Jeremy Colliton, Chicago center Jared Ross, Cleveland goaltender Jamie Holden, Grand Rapids defenseman Nick Martens, Hamilton center Francis Lemieux, Hartford left wing Nigel Dawes, Hershey right wing Eric Fehr, Houston center Patrick O'Sullivan, Iowa center Jamie Johnson, Lowell left wing Andrew Ladd, Milwaukee goaltender Pekka Rinne, Providence center Tyler Redenbach, Rochester right wing Mark Mancari, San Antonio defenseman Matt Jones, Springfield center Ryan Vesce, Syracuse center Geoff Platt and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton left wing Daniel Carcillo.
