San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 1, 2005) - The Phoenix Coyotes assigned National Hockey League record-breaking goaltender Brian Boucher and defenseman Matt Jones to the San Antonio Rampage. Boucher has been assigned for a two week conditioning period.
The 28-year-old Boucher, who strained a groin muscle in the Coyotes Sept. 16 preseason game against the Minnesota Wild, is scheduled to start tonight when the Rampage host the Cleveland Barons at the SBC Center at 7:00 p.m.
Boucher, a member of the 1997-98 AHL Calder Cup Champion Philadelphia Phantoms, led all Coyotes goaltenders in games played, minutes, wins and shutouts during the 2003-04 season. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound netminder compiled a 2.74 goals against average (GAA), .906 save percentage (SV%) and a 10-19-10 record in 40 games. Boucher performed one of the most incredible feats in hockey history when he set two new modern-day NHL records with five consecutive shutouts and a shutout sequence of 332:01, breaking the 55-year-old records of Montreal's Bill Durnan (4 shutouts, 309:21 sequence in 1948-49).
The Woonsocket, Rhode Island-native has played five seasons in the NHL with Phoenix and the Philadelphia Flyers. In his NHL career, Boucher has posted a 2.65 GAA, .901 SV% and a 71-77-30 record. He was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the first round (22nd overall) of the 1995 Entry Draft. The Coyotes acquired Boucher from the Flyers on June 12, 2002.
In his first professional season, the 6-foot, 215-pound Jones has played in 3 games for the Coyotes, recording 4 penalty minutes. In 19 games with San Antonio this season, Jones has collected 7 assists and 8 penalty minutes. Jones was recalled by the Coyotes on Nov. 23. The 22-year-old native of Downers Grove, Illinois was drafted by the Coyotes (3rd round, 80th overall) in the 2002 Entry Draft.
