December 1, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Barons News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Two NHL goaltenders shutdown any offense produced Thursday night as the Rampage and Barons skated to a scoreless tie through regulation and overtime. San Antonio won the game 1-0 in a shootout sending the Barons record to 8-13-1-1.
Both teams featured NHL goaltenders as San Jose assigned Vesa Toskala to the Barons on conditioning assignment and Pheonix reassigned Brian Boucher for the same reason. Both goalies were coming back from groin injuries.
The first period was a tentative session with both teams combining for just six shots on goal. Neither team could capitalize on two power play chances apiece. The Barons out-shot San Antonio 4-2.
The second period did not produce any more offense as the team's skated through forty minutes in a scoreless tie. The Barons out-shot San Antonio 7-4 in the period.
The scoreless hockey continued through the third period forcing an overtime session and eventually shootouts. Boucher was replaced by shootout specialist Karl Goehring for San Antonio and the goaltender responded with 4-saves on 5-shots against to pick up his first AHL win of the season, 1-0. The Barons only shootout goal scorer was Garrett Stafford. Pascal Rheaume scored the game-winning shoot-out goal for the Rampage.
