Ben Fumega Is November Youth Hockey All-Star
December 1, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have named Ben Fumega of Stamford their November Youth Hockey All-Star of the Month.
Ben, who turned nine in November, plays both goaltender and defense for the Stamford Youth Hockey Association Squirt House Team D'Arinzo. The fourth-grader from St. Cecilia School skates up to four times a week and enjoys watching and analyzing the game just as much as he does playing it. Ben had quite a month on the ice scoring his first goal on November 13th then turning in a 25-save effort a week later while in goal. He prefers to play goal and lists former Sound Tiger and current Islander Rick DiPietro, as well as Sound Tiger Wade Dubielewicz among his favorite players. Ben would like to some day play hockey on a professional level or be involved in team operations.
The Sound Tigers will name a Youth Hockey All-Star every month this season. Parents and coaches are encouraged to nominate players whose hard work, sportsmanship and athletic achievement stand out among their peers by sending a short synopsis of their accomplishments. Nominations can be emailed to info@soundtigers.com or mailed to "Sound Tigers Youth Hockey All-Star", 600 Main Street, Bridgeport CT 06604. Nominations should include the player's name, age, team, position and favorite player, as well as name, address and phone number of a parent or legal guardian. Winning players will have their profile and photograph published at www.soundtigers.com.
Information about Sound Tigers youth programs, including the Youth Hockey All-Star, High School Journalist Competition, Blades For Grades and youth-hockey programs, is available on-line at www.soundtigers.com or by calling 203-334-GOAL.
