
Blackhawks sign pair, Thornton to Norfolk

General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have signed forwards Andy Hilbert and MikhailYakubov. Forward Shawn Thornton was re-assigned to Norfolk in the AHL.
"These signings definitely upgrade our skill level," said Blackhawk General Manager Dale Tallon. "With the injuries we've had to Daze and Ruutu, Hilbert and Yakubov give us alternatives as far as skill is concerned. They will both add skill to our lineup."
Hilbert was acquired by the Blackhawks from the Boston Bruins on November 6th in exchange for a 5th round pick in the 2006 draft. He signed a PTO with the Norfolk Admirals and has appeared in five games at Norfolk scoring three goals while adding four assists for seven points.
Yakubov was the Blackhawks' 1st round pick (10th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He had been playing for Spartak in the Russian League appearing in 29 games scoring 5 goals and adding 7 assists for 12 points with 38 penalty minutes. He played in 30 games for the Blackhawks in the 2003-04 season and scored one goal while adding seven assists for eight points. He played last season at Norfolk in the AHL where he played in 59 games scoring 12 goals and adding 15 assists for 27 points.
Shawn Thornton had been recalled by the Blackhawks on November 16th. He appeared in two games for the Blackhawks on the recent road trip and did not score.
