Rampage Snap Skid in AHL's 30,000th Game
December 1, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
Three goalies, two teams and one heck of a defensive display in an impressive milestone. Down on a conditioning assignment from the Phoenix Coyotes, goaltender Brian Boucher stopped all 19 shots to help the San Antonio Rampage snapped an eight-game losing streak defeating the Cleveland Barons in a 1-0 in a shootout as the two teams played in the American Hockey League's 30,000th regular-season game at the SBC Center Thursday night.
Karl Goehring, replacing Boucher in the shootout, stopped four of five shootout attempts to halt the Rampage's four-game losing streak as Tim Jackman and Pascal Rheaume each scored shootout goals to lift San Antonio to their first victory since Nov. 18.
A total of 36 shots were shared by both teams as Cleveland's goaltender Vesa Toskala, who was also playing on a conditioning assignment from San Jose, stopped all 16 of 17 shots. The first period alone warranted a total of six shots (4 for Cleveland to San Antonio's 2).
The scoreless game continued into the four-on-four, five-minute overtime with each team producing three scoreless shots each.
The game came down to the one-on-one as Cleveland defenseman Garrett Stafford opened the Texas shootout with a goal. Tim Jackman came back with a point of his own for the Rampage. The next shots for both teams were no good. San Antonio center Pascal Rheaume put one past Toskala to give the Rampage their first win since their last win at home on Oct. 21 which was also a shootout win.
The San Antonio Rampage will face the Barons again tomorrow at the SBC Center at 7 p.m. for the first Spurs Night of the season.
