Taffe Records Fourth Straight Two-Point Game In Win Over Rampage
October 31, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - Jeff Taffe recorded his fourth consecutive two-point game, notching a goal and an assist as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins posted a 3-1 win against the San Antonio Rampage on Friday night. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Penguins, and upped Wilkes-Barre's record to 4-3-0-1 on the year.
Taffe, who suited up 92 times for the Rampage over two seasons, assisted on Tim Wallace's game-winning goal, then added his seventh tally in seven AHL games late in the third period, to secure the win for the Penguins. The Wilkes-Barre forward has 11 points since being assigned to the club on October 9, and has netted 18 goals in 34 games with the Pens over the last two years.
There was plenty of action in the relatively low-scoring contest, as the teams combined for 73 shots on goal, and 78 penalty minutes on the night.
Brett MacLean opened the scoring for the Rampage with his team-leading fourth goal of the year at 6:36 of the second period, before Connor James picked up a shorthanded tally three minutes later to even the score at 1-1. That score held until the 17 minute mark, when Taffe set up Wallace for his first goal of the season. The second period alone produced 33 combined shots (17 for the Penguins, 16 for the Rampage).
Taffe picked up the late insurance goal, his sixth in the past four games, and stretched his goal scoring streak to four games. John Curry picked up his first win of the season with a 31 save performance, while counterpart Josh Tordjman turned aside 38 shots in defeat.
