San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO ( October 31, 2008) - The Rampage dropped a 3-1 decision to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Friday night at the AT&T Center. With Penguins' leading scorer Chris Minard being called up to Pittsburgh, it was their second leading scorer and former Rampage forward, Jeff Taffe, who lead the way.

Taffe's assist to left wing Tim Wallace broke a 1-1 tie at 17:19 in the second period. Taffe put the game away with 2:49 remaining in the third leading a 3-on-1 break that he netted past Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman.

It was San Antonio who struck first, however, when rookie sensation Brett MacLean scored his team leading fourth goal of the season at the 6:36 mark. Assisted by rookie defenseman David Schlemko and center Garth Murray, MacLean has scored in five of his last six games including 4 goals and 2 assists.

With the Rampage leading 1-0 and on a power play, Penguins' center Doug Jeffrey stole the puck, rushed the net and let off a huge slapshot saved by Tordjman, but center Connor James skating trail put in the rebound for a short-handed goal and a tie game midway through the second.

Down 2-1 in the third, Rampage center Adam Perry seemingly tied the game with 8:57 left when a scrum around the crease turned into a loose puck score. Referee Mark Lemelin, however, disallowed the game-tying goal when he blew his whistle before the puck hit the back of the net.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton outshot the Rampage 41-32. Penguins' goalie John Curry took the win and Tordjman took the loss despite making a season high 38 saves. The Rampage continued two trends against the Penguins. Ranked second in the AHL in penalty killing, the Rampage shut out Wilkes-Barre on eight power play opportunities but also allowed their league leading fifth short-handed goal.

The Rampage host the Providence Bruins tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
