Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, Ill. (October 31, 2008) - Peoria continues to be a friendly place for the Rivermen as they beat the Quad City Flames 4-2 on Friday night. They have won three consecutive games, all at home, and remain unbeaten in regulation (4-0-1) at Carver Arena.

Steve Regier scored a pair of power-play goals in the first period and Eric Neilson chipped in with a goal and a decisive victory in a fight with heavyweight Peter Vandermeer. Marek Schwarz stopped 27 shots en route to his first win of the season.

The Flames snuck their first shot of the game past Schwarz to put Quad City out in front just 26 seconds into the first. Warren Peters scored for the fourth-straight game by wristing one off the arm of Schwarz from along the goal line for his fifth tally of the season.

Peoria's power play, which had scored five goals in its last 17 opportunities coming into the game, scored twice in a five-minute span to give the Rivermen the lead. Jeff Woywitka and Nikolay Lemtyugov pushed the puck out into the crease where Regier backhanded a shot off the post. As players crashed towards the net, Regier pushed his own rebound across the line to tie the game at 8:38.

In a very similar play, Regier found the rebound off Woywitka's slapshot and was able to beat Matt Keetley before the Flames' defense landed on top of him. Regier's goal at 13:30 was his seventh of the season and marked his third multi-goal game of the young campaign. Woywitka already has five assists in his first three games with the Rivermen.

After dominating the shot totals, 15-4, in the first period, Peoria allowed Quad City to put together some offensive pressure during the middle frame. Despite the Flames 15 shots in the period, the Rivermen's Neilson scored the only goal. Off an offensive zone faceoff, Neilson fired a puck off the blocker of Keetley and into the net at 14:16.

Quad City struck back at 9:08 of the third to cut Peoria's lead to 3-2. Brett Sutter tipped a Brad Cole shot from the point through his legs and those of Schwarz for his first of the year.

Cam Paddock fired an empty-net goal from 100 feet away with only 44.4 seconds remaining to give the Rivermen a 4-2 decision. The Rivermen have beaten the Flames in both meetings this season.
