Pirates Sink Admirals

NORFOLK, VA - Despite out-shooting their opponent 29-18, the Norfolk Admirals (1-5-1-2) were shut out by the Portland Pirates (5-1-1-0) 4-0 on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.

After a scoreless opening period, the Pirates took a 3-0 lead with a trio of goals under five minutes apart in the second stanza. Tim Kennedy opened scoring with a turnaround shot from the slot at 10:16. Felix Schutz made it 2-0 Portland under a minute later with a backhand shot off a rebound at 11:01. Nathan Gerbe accepted a pass in the slot and sent a wrist shot into the net at 15:10.

Aaron Slattengren closed out scoring when the puck ricocheted off his leg in a goalmouth scramble at 4:52 of the final frame.

Karri Ramo (18 shots, 14 saves) suffered the loss. Jhonas Enroth (29 shots, 29 saves) earned the shutout.

Norfolk was 0-4 on the power play. Portland was 0-5.

The Admirals and Pirates will engage again tomorrow night at Scope. The first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive an Admirals pennant courtesy of Good Neighbor Pharmacy.
