Iowa Chops News Release

Thanks to a 3rd period power play goal from Bobby Ryan, a perfect penalty kill from the Chops and the best performance of the year from goaltender J.P. Levasseur, the Iowa Chops posted a big 2-1 win Friday night in Des Moines. It was a Halloween clash on Friday night in Des Moines between the Chops and Wolves and for the third straight night, the Iowa Chops got off to a good start in the 1st period. Outshooting the Wolves 7-5 in the period, the Chops scored first goal for the fourth time this season thanks to a breakaway goal from Drew Miller, who received a nice pass from T.J. Trevelyan and slipped one between the legs of Wolves goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Brian Salcido also assisted on the play. The rest of the period was highlighted by a great penalty killing performance from the Chops led by goalie J.P. Levasseur. The 2nd period saw the Wolves turn up the heat and tie the game three minutes in from Scott Lehman, who snuck a shot underneath a screened Levasseur. Both teams would have their chances, but the goalies remained strong and after 40 minutes the score remainded tied at 1-1. The 3rd period saw both teams with plenty of offensive chances, but the Chops would gain the lead for good eight minutes in as a power play netted the Chops a chance down low. Defenseman Adrian Veideman pinched down low on the play and instead of shooting from the low slot, drew Pavelec over and slid a pass across to a wide open Bobby Ryan for his team-leading 7th goal of the season. Joakim Lindstrom also assisted on the goal. Levasseur and the Chops team defense would make the lead stand, helped by the fact the Chops didn't take a penalty in the 3rd period. For the fifth straight game, the Chops scored a power play goal and were also perfect on the penalty kill, going 3 for 3.

The two teams face-off again at the Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday, November 1st at 7:05pm in the tail end of the series. There will be a pre-game tailgate party at Hy-Vee Hall beginning at 5pm featuring a live concert from the Flying Silos.
