SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Liam Reddox scored two goals, including the shorthanded game-winner, as the Springfield Falcons defeated the Lowell Devils, 4-1, on Friday at the MassMutual Center.
With score tied 1-1 after the first period, the only goal of the second was a shorthanded marker at 3:47 that gave the Falcons their first lead of the game. A turnover by Lowell at the offensive blueline lead to a 2-on-1 rush for Springfield with Tim Sestitio setting up Reddox for the easy tap-in past Scott Clemmensen.
Outshot 39-19 in the contest, the Devils could not find their offense and were forced to watch the Falcons pull away late in the game. Theo Peckham allowed Springfield to enjoy a two-goal edge with six under minutes left in regulation on a power play goal that weaved its way through traffic and found the back of the net.
Reddox notched his second goal of the night and completed the scoring 1:40 later when he picked off Clemmensen's outlet pass and fired it into the open cage. The Devils goaltender finished the game with 35 saves.
Vladimir Zharkov gave the Devils a 1-0 lead 2:10 into the game with this third goal of the season. Left wing Alexander Vasyunov - playing in his first game for Lowell - forced a turnover to Pascal Rheaume, who quickly found Zharkov on the right circle for a one-timer that found beat Devan Dubnyk to the glove-side.
Springfield would tie the score 1:23 before the first intermission as Bryan Lerg flung a shot from the hash marks that snuck into top right corner.
The Devils return home on Saturday, November 1 when they again face the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Listen to all of the action live on 980AM-WCAP or ahllive.com as Ryan Johnston brings you all of the play-by-play.
