Toledo Walleye News Release

The Storm's 30-9-7 record gives Toledo 67 points, which places the Storm tied with the Peoria Rivermen for the top position in the ECHL point standings (as well as the top slot in the Northwest Division). Toledo's total of 30 wins is second only to Peoria (32) for the most wins in the league at this time.

Toledo's .728 win percentage is tied with the Peoria Rivermen for the best in the league.

By picking up three points in the standings this week (1-1-1=3), the Storm has now amassed more points in the standings (67) than the team had for the entire year last season, when Toledo went 28-34-10 = 66.

With the home victory over the Mississippi Sea Wolves on Sunday of this week, the Storm picked up the team's sixteenth home victory (16-2-4 = 36), tying the total number of home victories that the team had in the entire year last season, when Toledo had a home record of 16-15-5 = 37.

With the overtime loss in Peoria on Friday (1-2) and the loss to Lexington on Saturday, the Storm's winless streak was extended to three games (0-2-1), tying a season high. The Storm also went winless for three straight from November 29 through December 6 (0-2-1). The Storm snapped this winless streak with the 5-2 win over Mississippi on Sunday afternoon.

With the home loss to the Lexington Men O'War on Saturday night, the Storm's home winless streak was extended to a season high four games (0-1-3), dating to a 3-0 victory by the Storm over the Johnstown Chiefs on December 28, 2002. The Storm also snapped that streak with the 5-2 win over Mississippi on Sunday afternoon.

In Peoria on Friday night, the Storm and Rivermen played to a 1-1 tie in regulation time. That marked the eleventh time this season that the Storm has been involved in a game that was tied at the end of sixty minutes. The Storm has a record of 4-0-7 in those games.

The game with Peoria on Friday marked the sixth time in the prior twelve games that Toledo had played the opponent to a tie in regulation time. Toledo had a record of 1-0-5 in those six games.

When Peoria's Tyler Rennette scored the game winner 2:01 into overtime on Friday night, it marked the fourth consecutive time that the Storm lost a game that ended regulation time in a tie. Toledo lost two of those games in overtime (the other being a 4-3 overtime loss to Dayton on January 17); and lost the other two in a shootout (on January 10 in Baton Rouge; and on January 18 to Lexington).

With the overtime loss in Peoria on Friday, the Storm now has now won once and lost three times in overtime this season.

The 2-1 overtime loss to Peoria on Friday night marked the twenty-second time this season that Toledo played a game that was decided by just one goal. The Storm has a record of 13-2-7 in those one-goal games.

The first goal in Friday's game in Peoria was scored by the Rivermen's Randy Copley at 4:55 of the second period, while Peoria was on the power play. The Lexington Men O'War also scored the game's first goal in Saturday's 4-1 victory over Toledo. The Storm has allowed the opponent to score the game's first goal in seventeen games this season, and Toledo has a record of 6-8-3 in those games.

The lone goal scored by Toledo on Friday night was picked up by Nick Parillo. That was Parillo's sixteenth goal and fortieth point of the season for the Storm, placing him seventh in the league's rookie scoring race.

The goaltender for Toledo on Friday night was Mike Minard, who made a season high 42 stops on 44 shots he saw through 62:01 of play. That marked Minard's fifth start for the Storm this season, and three of those games have ended regulation time in a tie. Unfortunately for Minard, the Storm has ended up on the short-end in each of those three games, losing two of them in a shootout (at Baton Rouge on January 10; and against Lexington on January 18) and this one in overtime.

Minard played in all three games for the Storm this weekend and has now played at least a part of five consecutive games for the Storm. On Saturday night against the Lexington Men O'War, Minard came on in substitution of Doug Teskey, who was pulled at the 14:57 mark of the second period, with the score 3-0 in favor of Lexington. Minard allowed one goal on twelve shots in the remaining 25:03 of that game. On Sunday afternoon, Minard picked up his third win for the Storm stopping 22 of the 24 shots that he saw from the Mississippi Sea Wolves.

Goaltender Mike Minard has not been defeated in regulation this season as a member of the Toledo Storm. He has a record of 3-0-3 in the six games that he has started; and he has appeared in two other games as a substitute for Doug Teskey. With the Storm, Minard has a 2.22 goals against average and a .927 save percentage.

The Storm was outshot by the Peoria Rivermen 44-37 on Friday night. That marked the fifteenth time this season that Toledo has been outshot by the opponent, and the Storm has compiled a record of 9-5-1 in those games.

With the overtime loss to the Rivermen on Friday night, the Storm finished the month of January with a 6-2-5 record, and the Storm had only 3 home games during the entire month-and, interestingly, did not win any of those home games in that month (0-0-3).

Friday's game marked only the fifth time this season that the Storm has given up 40 or more shots to the opponent; and, perhaps paradoxically, the Storm has compiled a record of 4-0-1 in those games. On the flip side, Toledo has had 40 or more shots on the opponent's net in twelve games this year, and the Storm has a record of 9-0-3 in those games.

Saturday night's 4-1 loss to the Lexington Men O'War was only the second loss in regulation for the Storm on home ice all season long. The only other loss in regulation suffered by the Storm at the Toledo Sports Arena this season occurred on November 29, when the Storm was defeated by the Peoria Rivermen 2-0.

Saturday's game marked the seventh time this season that the Storm has scored one or fewer goals in a game, and Toledo has compiled a record of 0-6-1 in those games.

Toledo's lone goal on Saturday night was scored by Darryl Bootland, who also scored a goal and added an assist in the Storm's 5-2 victory over the Mississippi Sea Wolves on Sunday afternoon. Bootland now has fifteen goals and sixteen assists for the Storm, making him the team's third highest scorer. Twenty-four of Bootland's points (10g-14a=24 pts) (and nine of his ten multi-point performances) have come in his last nineteen games with the Storm.

Doug Teskey started in net for the Storm on Saturday night and was pulled from the game at the 4:16 mark of the second period after allowing 3 goals on 8 shots. That marked the second consecutive game that Teskey has been pulled from the net after starting for the Storm. (On Sunday, January 26, Teskey was pulled at the 14:57 mark of the second period of play after allowing five goals on 21 shots to the Peoria Rivermen.) The game on Saturday marked the sixth time that the Storm has made a goaltender substitution in a game this season. The Storm went twenty-seven games without making a goaltender substitution prior to last Sunday's loss in Peoria.

In Saturday's 4-1 loss to Lexington, the Storm outshot the Men O'War 34-20. The Storm also outshot the Mississippi Sea Wolves, 34-24, in Sunday's 5-2 win. Toledo has now outshot the opponent in 27 games this year and has compiled a record of 18-4-5 in those games.

Over the course of the season, the Storm has averaged 35.22 shots on goal per game, which is second only to the Florida Everblades (35.96) in that category.

With the 5-2 victory over the Mississsippi Sea Wolves on Sunday afternoon, the Storm ran its record to 6-0-1 against teams from the ECHL's Southwest Division. Toledo has a perfect 3-0-0 record at the Toledo Sports Arena against teams from the Southwest. The Storm has one more game against a Southwest Divisional opponent this season, as the Louisiana Ice Gators will visit Toledo on March 1.

The Storm's Darryl Bootland scored the game's first goal in Sunday's 5-2 win over Mississippi. That was the twenty-ninth time this season that the Storm has picked up the first tally of the game. Toledo has a record of 24-1-4 in those games. For Bootland, that was the second time this season that he scored the game's first goal.

Toledo's second goal on Sunday was scored by Tim Verbeek at the 3:08 mark of the second period to give the Storm a lead that the team would not relinquish. That was Verbeek's tenth goal of the season.

Dale Junkin scored Toledo's third goal on Sunday at 7:11 of the second period to give the Storm a 3-1 lead over the Sea Wolves. That goal turned out to be the game winner. For Junkin, that was his seventh goal of the season, and three of those goals have been game winners. Junkin's goal was scored while the Storm was on the power play, making it his second power play goal of the season.

Trevor Read scored the Storm's fourth goal on Sunday at 8:17 of the third period; and it was also scored while the Storm was on the power play. That was Read's fourth goal of the season, and three of his goals have come with the Storm on the power play. Read also assisted on the game winning power play goal scored by Dale Junkin. Read now has picked up seven points on the power play this season (3g-4a=7pts.) This marked Read's first multi-point performance as a pro.

Grady Moore assisted on both power play goals scored by the Storm on Sunday afternoon. Moore, who was re-assigned to the Storm prior to Sunday's game after playing five games with the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League, leads the Storm with nineteen power play points (2g-17a=19pts). Moore is also the leading scoring defenseman with the Storm with 30 points (7g-23a=30pts). Sunday's game marked the eighth multi-point performance of the season for Moore.

Wes Mason scored the Storm's fifth and final goal of the game on Sunday afternoon sixteen seconds after Trevor Read had put the Storm up 4-2. For Mason, that was his tenth goal of the season.

Paul Ballantyne assisted on the goals scored by Tim Verbeek and Wes Mason on Sunday afternoon. For Ballantyne, that was his third multi-point performance of the season.

Sunday's game marked the twelfth time this season that the Storm has scored twelve or more goals in a game, and Toledo has a record of 12-0-0 in those games. Over the course of the season, the Storm has averaged scoring 3.46 goals per game, which is eleventh in the league.

Sunday's game marked the twentieth time this season that the Storm has held the opponent to 2 or fewer goals and the Storm has a record of 18-1-1 in those games. Over the course of the season, the Storm has a team goals against average of 2.83, which is fourth in the league.

In Sunday's game, the Storm and the Sea Wolves combined for 133 penalty minu tes penalty minutes. On November 30th in Dayton, the Storm and Bombers combined for 153 pims, which is the season high in that category for Toledo.

Darryl Bootland led all players in Sunday's game with 23 penalty minutes. The individual season high in that category for the Storm is held by Bootland, who picked up 28 pims in the game against Dayton on November 30. Bootland currently leads the league in total penalty minutes with 283.

Entering Sunday's game, the Storm power play had scored just four goals in the prior 45 opportunities with the man advantage (8.8% scoring ratio). In fact, in the first two games this week, the Storm power play was kept off the board and has now been blanked in sixteen games this season. On Sunday, the PP scored two goals in nine chances, marking the twelfth time this season that Toledo has scored two or more power play goals in a single game. The Storm has now scored 46 power play goals in 278 chances, a 16.5% scoring ratio, which is seventeenth in the league.

The Storm gave up one power play goal in each of the three games played this week. Toledo has now given up at least PP goal against in six consecutive games. Overall, the Storm has allowed 46 power play goals against in 269 opportunities for the opponent, which is an 82.9% kill ratio-8th in the league.
