Titans Sweep Road Trip
February 3, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
Beating Northwest Division leader Peoria on Saturday and defending Northern Conference Champion Dayton on Sunday, Trenton extended its winning streak to a season-high five consecutive games, including three in a row on the road.
Trenton is 7-3-0 in its last 10 games and 24-16-7 overall with 55 points. The Titans need 45 points in their final 25 games to finish with 100 points for the third consecutive season. Trenton is the only team in ECHL history to finish with 100 points in back-to-back seasons, finishing with 104 points in 2000-01 and 102 points in 2001-02.
The Titans host Toledo on Wednesday before traveling to Charlotte for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. After winning its first two road games of the season, Trenton lost nine consecutive road games and was 2-9-0 away from home on December 22. The Titans, however, are 8-1-2 in their last 11 road games evening their road record at 10-10-2.
Rookie goaltender Brandon Snee saw his first action for Trenton on Saturday, making 24 saves in a 3-1 win at Peoria, a win that ended Peoria's ECHL season-high and team record 11-game home winning streak. Assigned by Hartford of the American Hockey League on Thursday, Snee started his second straight game on Sunday and made 27 saves in a 5-4 shootout win at Dayton.
Adam Edinger has scored a pair of game-winning goals and a team-leading 10 points (5g-5a) during the five-game winning streak. Edinger is tied for third in the ECHL with five shorthand goals and leads the Titans with 26 goals, 13 power-play goals, and 48 points while tying for the team lead with four game-winning goals. Scott Bertoli has scored nine points (3g-6a) in the last five games and has a team-high 16 points (6g-10a) in the last 10 games. Activated from the injured reserve on January 2, Bertoli has 30 points (11g-19a) in 22 games for Trenton. The line comprised of Bertoli, Edinger and Mike Hurley combined for 16 points (8g-8a) in the last three games.
Atlantic City's Henkel Extends Scoring Streak to 17 Games
Atlantic City rookie Jim Henkel extended his scoring streak to an East Coast Hockey League season-high 17 games with a pair of assists in Saturday's 5-2 win against Greensboro. Henkel also has a 13-game road scoring streak that ties him with teammate Kevin Colley for the longest road scoring streak in the ECHL in 2002-03. Henkel has scored 21 points (11g-10a) during the road streak that began December 1 at Richmond.
The 6-2 and 190-pound Henkel ranks third among ECHL rookies with 22 goals and is tied for third among rookies with four game-winning goals while ranking fourth in scoring with 48 points (22g-26a) in 45 games. The 23-year-old Henkel, who has also played two games with Cleveland of the American Hockey League, had an assist and was +2 while helping the Northern Conference to an 8-2 win in the Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game on January 21 in Estero, Fla.
Dayton's Ling Scores 500th Point
Assisting on a second-period goal by Tom Nemeth in Friday's 3-1 win over Mississippi, Dayton's Jamie Ling became the 17th player in East Coast Hockey League history to score 500 points. Returning to the ice after missing two games because of injury, Ling added a shorthand goal on Friday and came back on Saturday to score the Bombers first hat trick of the season in a 5-1 win over Roanoke. Ling is tied for the team lead with 21 points and ranks second on the team in scoring with 34 points (13g-21a) in 46 games.
