Stingrays Tripped Up By Gladiators 4-1
November 16, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
Duluth, GA- The South Carolina Stingrays traveled to Gwinnett County to take on the Gladiators for the first time this season. After going 0-5 at the Gwinnett Center last year, the Stingrays hoped to have more success their this season. But they wouldn't have that success tonight as they fell 4-1 to first place Gwinnett.
"We knew this would be a tough test," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "I thought we played well tonight, but gave them too many opportunities on the power play."
It was that power play that struck twice in the second period, after a scoreless first. Bryse Busniuk and Jon Awe scored just over 3 minutes apart to give the Gladiators a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.
The Stingrays got their only goal of the game in the third period, when Travis Morin, who just returned from a stint with the Hershey Bears, scored his ninth goal of season, unassisted at 6:18, cutting the lead in the half.
At 18:48 of the third period the Gladiators scored another power play goal, this one from Andy Brandt, to make the score 3-1. An empty net goal by Myles Stoesz salted this one away, and made the score 4-1, the eventual final.
The winning goaltender was Dan Turple who made 23 saves on 24 shots. The losing goaltender was Josh Johnson who stopped 40 of 43 shots. The Rays went 0 for 3 on the power play, while killing off 3 of 6 short handed situations.
The Stingrays return home tomorrow night to host the Florida Everblades. Game time will be at 7:05. Don't forget its Force Protection Military Appreciation Night. All military personnel with valid military ID will get $9 tickets at the door.
"I'm glad we get right back into it tomorrow night at home. I hate having a week of practice after a loss, so this will be an opportunity to turn it around."
