
Sea Wolves Shoot Down Ice Pilots 8-2

BILOXI, MS - Lance Monych scored a goal and four assists, Radek Smolenak had a goal and three assists and Torry Gajda and Jason Tejchma each scored a pair of goals as the Mississippi Sea Wolves beat the Pensacola Ice Pilots by a score of 8-2 in front of a crowd of 4,386 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Friday night.
The Sea Wolves grabbed the lead at 3:51 of the first period, when Radek Smolenak fed Monych from behind the net and he jammed it past Pensacola goaltender John Daigneau. Smolenak notched his second assist of the night when he got the puck to Jason Tejchma, who beat Daigneau upstairs with a wrist shot at 16:25 of the first period.
With both teams distracted by a scrum near the benches, Mark Hurtubise picked up the puck and broke in alone, putting the puck past Daigneau for a 3-0 lead at 9:09 of the second period. At 11:13 of the second, Torry Gajda scored his first of the game, picking up the rebound of Mike Falk's wrist shot. He would score his second of the game ten seconds later, when he broke down the right wing and launched a shot that beat Daigneau on the short side and chased him from the Pensacola net.
Pensacola got on the board when Luke Erickson picked up the rebound of his own shit and put it past Sea Wolves goaltender Morgan Cey at 12:50 of the second. Tejchma would add his second of the game at 15:47.
Bryan McGregor would cut the Sea Wolves lead to five, scoring his third of the season at the two minute mark of the third period. At 12:27, Gio Flamminio scored his second of the season, beating Pensacola's Mike Brodeur with a drive from the left point. Radek Smolenak closed out the scoring for the Sea Wolves with a power-play goal at 13:36 of the third period.
The Sea Wolves were 1-for-6 on the power play, and Morgan Cey made 26 saves on 28 shots to earn the win.
The Sea Wolves next home game is this tomorrow, November 17 at 7:05 p.m. when the Sea Wolves take on the Pensacola Ice Pilots.
