November 16, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID- Grizzlies' center Micheal Haley scored just 1:21 into sudden death overtime to push his club past the Steelheads 6-5 in front of 4,858 fans at Qwest Arena on Friday night.
On the game-winner, Haley took Scott Ford's neutral ice feed and worked into the offensive zone along the left wing side before snapping a shot that snuck through the pads of Steve Silverthorn (20 saves) for his first game-winner of the year.
The overtime defeat is the fourth this season for the Steelheads (4-2-6), who remain unbeaten in three games. The Grizzlies (5-8-0) meanwhile snapped their three-game losing streak with their second overtime win over the Steelheads this season.
The first period was a highly entertaining 20 minutes with the two clubs combining for six tallies. The Steelheads took a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes on a shorthanded marker by Mark Bomersback and a power play goal by Taggart Desmet.
The Grizzlies answered at 9:21 when Christian Gaudet tipped Ford's right point shot past Silverthorn for his second goal of the series. Just 41 seconds later, Rob Sirianni took a feed from the Steelheads crease and converted to tie the score at two. Jason Pitton and Gaudet grabbed the assists.
Darrell Hay put the Steelheads in front again, making it 3-2 with a power play goal at 13:07. Marty Flichel and Bomersback drew the assists, as Hay picked up a rebound at the left circle and beat Grizzlies' goaltender Mike Mole (22 saves). Again however, the Grizzlies tied the game on Gaudet's second of the period, an even-strength goal at 17:26. Pitton picked up the only assist.
After one period, the score was tied at three and the shots favored the Steelheads 15-9.
The visitors took their first lead of the evening on Keith Johnson's man advantage marker at 12:45 of the second period, as he took Olivier Labelle's feed and beat Silverthorn off a scramble in front. Haley got the other assist.
With less than 30 seconds left in the stanza, Lance Galbraith parlayed Hay's missed shot into a goal, his fifth of the year. It's the fourth straight game Galbraith has tallied, as Flichel also snagged a point on the equalizer.
At 3:44 of the third period the Grizzlies went ahead 5-4 when Trevor Smith blocked Blake Forsyth's clearing attempt and beat Silverthorn for a shorthanded tally.
Hay's second of the night evened the score once more, as he connected on a five-on-three power play goal at 6:12 of the third period. Flichel again got an assist, his third of the match.
The final shots favored the Steelheads 27-26, while the two teams combined for six specialty teams goals.
The Steelheads will travel to West Valley City, Utah to conclude their series on Saturday, November 17. The puck drops at 7:05p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks.
