Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Bracken Kearns has been named team captain. The Royals also announced that Malcolm MacMillan and Joe Zappala will serve as alternate captains for home games this season; and Matt Herneisen and Kevin Saurette will serve as alternate captains for games on the road.
Kearns, a third year pro who hails from Vancouver, British Columbia, has assisted on five goals in six games with the Royals this season. Last year, Kearns played seventy-nine games for the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL, registering eleven goals and fifteen assists, while earning that team's nomination for the AHL's Man of the Year Award. In his rookie season, 2005-06, with the ECHL's Toledo Storm, Kearns scored thirty-three goals in seventy-one games, which tied him for the league amongst first year players. Prior to turning pro, Kearns played four seasons with the University of Calgary, where he was selected as team captain during his senior season.
The Royals return to action on tonight (7:05 pm) when the Trenton Devils make their first appearance at the Sovereign Center in Reading. The first 1500 fans in attendance that night will receive a camouflage hat courtesy of Medalist Performance Apparel and Mossy Oak. The game night broadcast will begin at 6:35 pm with the pre-game warm-up show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata, PA, as well as on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com.
