November 16, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Texas Wildcatters News Release
Beaumont, TX- Danick Bouchard and Ross Carlson each scored twice as the Texas Wildcatters (9-1-0-1) extended their unbeaten streak to ten games by defeating the Elmira Jackals (6-5-0-1) 6-3 in Beaumont Friday.
Bouchard, who has led off the scoring for the Wildcatters in four of their last five games, opened the game with a low wrist shot to beat Jackal goaltender Joel Martin through the five-hole at 8:41 of the first period.
Leading 1-0, Texas brought on an extra attacker during a delayed Elmira penalty and Ross Carlson scored on the subsequent play with a near zero-angle shot from the bottom of the left circle, giving the 'Catters a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.
Carlson's second of the night came on the power play at 7:50 of the second stanza when he deflected an A.J. Thelen blast from the point. John Adams also assisted on the play.
Elmira, who played a physical game all night, finally got on the board when Shawn Weller snuck the puck between the legs of Anton Khudobin at 9:25 of the second. Texas would answer to make the score 4-1when Dave Schulz scored his first goal as a professional on a wrist shot that beat Martin up high.
Elmira would find the back of the net one more time before the intermission as Bruce Watson, who went rounds with Texas big man Matt Kassian at the game's opening face off, scored on Khudobin at 17:33.
The Wildcatters' 4-2 lead would again diminish when Pierre-Luc Faubert brought the Jackals within one midway through the third period.
Bouchard would give the Wildcatters breathing room with his second goal of the game and ninth of the season on a beautiful move that beat Martin at 14:33.
Brandon Benedict scored his fourth of the season on the power play with just two minutes remaining to make the score 6-3.
Texas finished 2-of-10 on the man advantage and successfully killed all three of Elmira's power play attempts.
Khudobin, who entered the game atop the ranks of ECHL goalies, finished the game with 28 saves. Martin stopped 29 of 35 shots for Elmira.
The teams meet again Saturday at 7:05 and Sunday afternoon at 4:05. The 'Catters have not lost in regulation since the season opener Oct. 19 at Augusta and have won their last eight games.
The Texas Wildcatters are the proud ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild of the NHL and the AHL's Houston Aeros.
The ECHL has affiliations with 26 of the 30 teams in the National Hockey League marking the 11th consecutive season that the league has had affiliations with at least 20 teams in the NHL.
