Chiefs Fall In Shootout Thriller

Johnstown, PA - The Chiefs lost their first one-goal game of the year, falling to Dayton 5-4 in a shootout at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink on Friday night.

Johnstown took the lead on Ryan Garlock's power play goal just 2:30 into the first period. Chanse Fitzpatrick scored his league-leading 11th goal on a Dayton power play just 2:18 later. Mike Walsh would give Dayton a short-lived lead with his third goal of the year at 13:00 of the second.

Garlock would answer back with two goals to complete his hat trick, the first coming nine seconds after Walsh's goal. Vincent Zaore and Jean Desrochers assisted on Garlock's third goal at 17:37 of the second, with Zaore's assist being his first professional point.

In the third period, Rob Drummond sniped a wrist shot over Dayton goalie Rejean Beauchemin's glove for Johnstown's fourth goal. Drummond's was sandwiched between tallies by Matt Beaudoin and Bobby Chaumont, leaving the score tied at four after 60 minutes of play.

Johnstown killed off almost four minutes of power play time in overtime to get to a shootout, but Greg Labenski slapped a shot past Andrew Penner to win the shootout 3-2 for Dayton. Alex Imbeault and Rob Drummond scored for Johnstown while Fitzpatrick and Mike Berry teamed up with Labenski on Dayton's shootout goals. Penner finished with 27 saves on 31 shots while Beauchemin saved 30 of 34. Johnstown went 1-for-5 on the power play while Dayton was 2-for-7.
