
Stingrays Bounce Gladiators 4-3

Duluth, GA - Stingrays forward Trent Campbell netted two goals and defenseman Johann Kroll registered two assists as the South Carolina Stingrays (40-19-6-6) defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators (31-32-5-3) 4-3 in front of 4,021 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Friday night.
For the second straight game, the Stingrays kicked off the scoring seconds into the first period as Campbell buried a wrist shot under the glove of Gladiators goaltender David Brown 13 seconds into the contest. Forward Nikita Kashirsky and defenseman Nate Kiser earned assists.
The Stingrays added two more goals in the second period to grab a 3-0 lead. Forward Gregg Johnson lit the lamp at 14:14 from forward Michael Dubuc for his 20 goal of the season. Kashirsky quickly followed with a tally at 14:49 from winger Keith Johnson and Kroll.
The Gladiators fought back in the third period to tie the game at three before Stingrays' Campbell netted the game-winning goal. Gwinnett got on the board on the power play at 1:41 off a drive from winger Mike McLean. Forwards Pat Galivan and Matt Francis recorded assists. Gladiators forward Daniel Sullivan pulled the game within one at 10:33 from defenseman Sean Hurley and forward Scott Mifsud.
Mifsud tied the game at 13:39 from Galivan and forward Matt Caruana. The Stingrays continued to pressure Brown and were rewarded at 17:03 as Campbell netted his second goal of the night from forward Rob Ricci and Kroll. Stingrays goaltender Shane Connelly earned his 16 win of the season stopping 32 of 35 Gladiators shots. Brown suffered the loss knocking aside 29 of 33 Stingrays chances. The Gladiators ended the night going 1-for-6 on the power play while the Stingrays went 0-for-4.
The Stingrays wrap up the regular season tomorrow, Saturday, April 3 against Gwinnet at 7:05 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center.
