April 2, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - In front of a near sell-out crowd, the Florida Everblades fell 3-1 to the Charlotte Checkers on Friday night at Germain Arena. With the win Charlotte kept their South Division championship hopes alive and #1 seed in the American Conference. The Everblades and Checkers will meet for the final time ever tomorrow in the regular season finale in Germain Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Charlotte was the first on the board at 7:41 with two-on-one short-handed tally recorded by right wing Aaron Slattengren, assisted by right winger Matt Stefanishion. The Everblades tied the game at one on a Matthew Pistilli breakaway goal 23-seconds after the Charlotte tally. The play was set up with great breakout passing from Colin Nicholson and Ryan Lang. The Checkers recaptured the lead two minutes later as Slattengren set up Stefanishion for his 21st goal of the season. The Checkers extended their lead to two goals on a Trevor Hendrikx power-play goal to end the scoring in the period. The Checkers took a 3-1 lead to the locker room after 40 minutes.
The Everblades outshot the Checkers 8-2 in the third period but could get no closer and Charlotte skated to the 3-1 win. The Florida Everblades and Charlotte Checkers play their final regular-season game ever tomorrow night at Germain Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 as Fan Appreciation Weekend continues with prizes given out throughout the evening.
