Salt Lake Bees News Release

SALT LAKE CITY-The Stingers begin the final homestand of the 2005 campaign tonight against Colorado Springs at 7:00pm at Franklin Covey Field. Salt Lake snapped their six-game losing streak Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win against the Sky Sox. The Stingers (71-65) trail Tacoma in the Pacific Northern Division race by four games with eight remaining for both teams. Tacoma's magic number to clinch the division is four. RHP Chris Bootcheck takes the mound tonight against LHP Justin Hampson for Colorado Springs.

ROSTER MOVES: On Thursday August 25, LHP Eric Cyr was placed on the disabled list with an injury to his left arm. RHP Jason Olson was transferred from double-A Arkansas to Salt Lake's roster to replace Cyr. INF Lou Merloni joined the Stingers on a Major League rehab assignment today. Merloni was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle. He went hitless in five at bats in five games with the Angels this season. C Josh Paul has left Salt Lake today ending his Major League rehab assignment.

50 IN 50: ESPN Sportscenter will be at Franklin Covey Field tonight for their Utah stop on the 50 States in 50 Days Tour. Sportscenter anchor Jay Harris will broadcast live at the home of the Stingers for the 9:00pm (MST) Sportscenter.

CENTURY MARK: OF Nick Gorneault is leading the Stingers with 94 RBI this season. He is six RBI shy of the century mark. If Gorneault can reach 100 RBI, he will become the eighth player in franchise history to hit the triple digit RBI total. INF Robb Quinlan was the last player to reach 100 RBI, with 112 in 2002.

NEW RECORD, 28: RHP Jason Olson pitched one third of an inning on Friday night to become the 28th pitcher used by the Stingers this season. The 28 pitcher mark breaks the franchise record for the most pitchers used in a season. The previous record was 27 pitchers in 2002.
