Portland Beavers News Release

TUCSON, Ariz. - Sean Burroughs had a home run and two RBIs and the Portland Beavers took advantage of five walks in the seventh inning to mount a three-run rally to beat the Tucson Sidewinders 4-3 Monday night at Tucson Electric Park.

Sean Estes and reliever Javier Lopez faced only one batter over the minimum in the first 6 1/3 innings and held the Beavers (66-70) to one run on Burroughs' home run, but saw their fine pitching wasted by a Tucson bullpen that couldn't find the plate.

With one out and a 2-1 lead, Mike Koplove (0-2) walked the first two hitters he faced in the seventh inning and then gave up a game-tying RBI-single to Burroughs before being replaced by Randy Choate.

Choate walked David Ross to load the bases and then walked Bobby Scales to force in the go-ahead run before recording the second out of the inning on a force out at home. Choate then walked pinch-hitter Nick Trzesniak to force in the Beavers' fourth run.

Mike Thompson (4-2) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in six innings of work for the win. Scott Cassidy pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save.

Tucson (65-72) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning with three hits off Thompson, including an RBI-double by Estes.

Keoni De Renne hit a solo home run in the eighth to close the gap to 4-3.

The Beavers play game two of their four-game series with the Tucson Sidewinders Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in Tucson, Ariz.
