Albuquerque players claim both PCL weekly honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Albuquerque's Mike Colangelo belted six home runs and collected 10 RBI to be named the Player of the Week for the week of August 22-28, the Pacific Coast League announced today. Teammate Travis Smith struck out 17 batters in 13.0 innings of work, while allowing just three earned runs to earn the Pitcher of the Week award. Colangelo and Smith become the third teammates to earn League honors in the same week this year.

Colangelo, 28, went 10-for-20 in six games last week raising his season average 13 points to .296. He posted a 1.400 slugging percentage with four multi-hit games and two multi-home run games to give him 14 dingers on the year. Residing in Manassas, Virginia, Colangelo was originally selected by the then Anaheim Angels in the 21st round of the 1997 draft.

Smith, 32, struck out 10 Round Rock batters in 6.0 innings on Tuesday to pick up a victory and is 3-0 in his last three starts with a 1.88 ERA, allowing only four earned runs is 19.1 innings. Born in Springfield, Oregon, Smith is 6-7 with a 4.32 ERA on the season with Albuquerque and has played in 12 games this year with the Florida Marlins.
