Round Rock's Klein named PCL Groundskeeper of the Year
Published on August 29, 2005 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Round Rock Express' Head Groundskeeper, Dennis Klein, has earned the 2005 Sports Turf Manager of the Year Award, in recognition of his work in keeping the field at The Dell Diamond in exemplary condition throughout the season, the League announced today. The award is selected annually by vote of all 16 PCL field managers.
This year marks Klein's sixth year as Head Groundskeeper for The Dell Diamond, which was voted "Field of the Year" in each of the Express' five seasons in the Texas League. Klein and his staff also won the Sport Turf Managers Association "Professional Field of the Year" award in 2001. In 2002 & 2004, Klein was awarded the Double-A Sports Turf Manager of the Year.
The Pacific Coast League also recognizes Head Groundskeeper Monte McCoy of the Oklahoma Redhawks and Head Groundskeeper Jarad Alley of the Albuquerque Isotopes with the "President's Honorable Mention Awards".
"The extraordinary professionalism throughout the PCL's groundskeeper community makes this award extremely competitive year-end year-out," said George King, Director of Business and Baseball Operations. "It's no wonder Major League Baseball finds many of their turf managers from our ranks."
The Sports Turf Manager of the Year award is based on 11 criteria, including overall playing surface, outfield/infield turf, pitcher's mound condition, and overall professionalism of the grounds crew.
