August 29, 2005 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Jesus Cota's 8th inning 3-run home run gave Tucson the lead for good in an 8-3 win. RHP Brian Bruney (1-0) picked up the win with his 1.2 IP of scoreless ball. RHP Emiliano Fruto (0-2) took the loss as he surrendered Cota's blast. He yielded 5 runs in 0.1 innings.
DH Carlos Quentin was hit by a pitch 3 times on the night, breaking the PCL record for HBP's in a season. The 3 tonight gave him 28 for the season with the old record recorded at 26. The 3 also tied the PCL record for most HBP' s in a game. The feat had previously occured twice before. Other offensive production came from the top of the lineup where 2B Andy Green's 3 hits provided enough offense to cap off the comeback. He is now batting .347 on the season.
For Tacoma, C Ryan Christiansen launched a 2-run home run to left field in the top of the 6th to temporarily give the Rainiers the lead, 3-2. The blast was Christiansen's 8th bomb of the season. RF Abraham Nunez also had a solid night at the plate, as he recorded 3 hits in 4 at bats.
The loss dropped Tacoma's record to 70-61, while Tucson improved to 65-71 with the win and snapped their 3 game losing streak. A crowd of 2,920 fans attended the contest, which lasted 3:07. The Portland Beavers come to town tomorrow night, and bring their 65-70 record with them to start a stretch of 8 games against Tucson, with the final 4 in Portland. RHP Mike Thompson (3-2, 3.45) of Portland faces rehabbing RHP Shawn Estes (0-0, 0.00) in the 7:00 contest.
