August 31, 2008 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson, AZ - With rain coming down intermittently throughout the night, the Salt Lake Bees were able to get past the Sidewinders 3-2 on Saturday night.

It was a pitching duel early between starters Evan MacLane and Anthony Ortega. MacLane pitched six scoreless innings for Tucson, allowing five hits and striking out three. Ortega only countered by giving up just one run on of nine hits in 7 1/3 innings of work for the Bees despite both pitchers working around a 19 minute delay after the first inning.

Emiliano Fruto replaced MacLane in the top of the seventh inning and gave up a solo homerun to Terry Evans, the first batter he faced. Tucson tied it back up in the bottom of the seventh with an Alex Romero RBI single to right.

In the eighth inning Salt Lake was able to regain the lead with an Adam Pavkovich double to right, which scored Freddy Sandoval and Kendry Morales to give the Bees a 3-1 late lead. The Sidewinders were able to bring in one run off a Phil Avlas single to right in the eighth but were unable to tie it again or take the lead.

The Sidewinders will play game three of a four game series against Salt Lake on Sunday night at 6:00 PM. Tucson's starter will be announced tomorrow, while right-hander Giancarlo Alvarado (7-5, 4.27) will start for the Bees. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 5:50 p.m.
