Oklahoma RedHawks Game Notes

August 31, 2008 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Baseball Club News Release

LAST GAME: Oklahoma plated five runs in the fourth inning to back Tommy Hunter in the RedHawks 7-3 win at Memphis Saturday night. Hunter allowed on run on six hits over eight innings to help Oklahoma snap a two game losing streak. Taylor Teagarden and Adam Fox hit solo home runs, and four RedHawks had multi-hit games to pace to win. Rico Washington and Jarrett Hoffpauir hit home runs in the losing effort for the Redbirds.

EXTRAS AT LAST: Oklahoma had four extra base hits in Saturday's win and snapped a 27 inning drought without one. Taylor Teagarden's leadoff home run in the fourth inning was the RedHawks first extra base hit since the third inning of Wednesday's 5-0 win at Round Rock.

ONE STREAK BROKEN: Yukinaga Maeda had not allowed a run over his last ten innings when he entered in the ninth last night in relief of Tommy Hunter. Maeda issued a one out walk and then a two-run home run to Jarrett Hoffpauir to break the scoreless streak, which dated back to the eighth inning of an August 9 8-2 loss at Albuquerque. Maeda surrendered a solo home run to Jai Miller, the only other run the former Japanese League veteran his allowed this month (1.80 ERA over ten games).

AND ANOTHER ROLLS ON:

Ryan Roberts has hit safely in his last eight games, dating back to August 22. This is Roberts fifth hitting streak of six games or more this season and he is hitting .432 over the last eight games with 16 hits in 37 at bats.

CLOSE THE BOOK:

Tommy Hunter closed his first full professional regular season with 174.2 innings pitched at four levels. The 2007 draftee pitched at four different levels, starting with Class A Bakersfield and reaching the Majors with Texas in August. Hunter's regular season composite record was 13-10 and held a 4.22 ERA, including a 16.86 earned run average with the Rangers. Without his three start stint in the big leagues, Hunter finished 13-8 with a 3.40 ERA.

LOE UP AGAIN:

Kameron Loe was recalled by Texas on Saturday when the Rangers put Vincente Padilla on the 15-day disabled list. Loe was optioned back to Oklahoma last Monday, but can return to the Rangers roster within the ten-day window since he is replacing an injured player. The will mark Loe's fifth different stint with Texas this season, where he is 1-0 with a 2.29 earned run average over seven appearances.

AMERICAN SOUTH CHAMPIONS:

The RedHawks clinched the American South division title on August 23. Oklahoma has been in or tied for first since April 7, and was the first club to clinch its division in the Pacific Coast League this season. This title is the fifth in RedHawks history (1999, 2002, 2004, & 2005) and the tenth in Oklahoma City Triple-A history (including seven in the PCL and three in the American Association).

MEMPHIS AT A GLANCE:

The Redbirds have a chance to finish with their best season record since 2000, when the club went 83-61 during the regular season. One more win will give Memphis its second most in any season since joining the PCL in 1998.
