BOISE, Idaho - The West Coast Hockey League's first place Idaho Steelheads hit the road today for a two-week trip to California. Coming into the second half of the season, the top four teams will be positioning for playoff placement.

Up Next: On January 7th, 10th and 11th, the Steelheads take on the streaking San Diego Gulls who have won their last 12 games and moved into second place. They'll take a couple of days off, then travel to play third place Bakersfield on January 15th. After that, they play a two-game weekend series against fourth place Fresno (17th and 18th) and return to Bakersfield to play their last road game on the 19th before coming home.

Top of Their League: The Steelheads have three of the top ten scorers in the league: Marty Flichel (RW), Joe Rybar (C) and Scott Swanson (D) are all tied for second spot with 38 points apiece (Anchorage's Dean Larson leads the league in points with 40). Flichel leads in goals scored with 19 and in power play goals with 11. Swanson leads the league in assists with 33 and is the top scoring defensemen in points total.

Current Streaks: Marty Flichel has scored a goal in each of the past 6 games (since 12/21), and has racked up 13 points in the past 7 games (since 12/20).

Roster Notes: Chris Marinucci (RW) has been waived by the Steelheads, and (emergency call up) goaltender James Moskos has been released (effective 1-6-03). The Steelheads activated Derek Paget from the 14-day injured reserve list, and placed Jeff Shevalier on (effective 12-30-03).

In the Community: The Steelheads deliver hot meals to homebound citizens on Monday through the Meals on Wheels program.
