Men O\' War Hit Halfway Point One Game over .500

Lexington, KY- The Men O' War finished the weekend 2-2-0 after starting New Year's Eve with a 5-1 loss in Wheeling. Friday Lexington bounced back with a 3-1 win over the Dayton Bombers. Saturday the MOW beat Dayton 4-3 in a shootout at the Nutter Center. Sunday Lexington closed out their weekend with a 4-1 loss in Peoria. This week Lexington will play three games within their division. Friday the Men will host Peoria in a re-match of Sunday's game. Saturday, the MOW head to Johnstown for the fifth meeting of the season with the Chiefs. Sunday Lexington returns home to host the Cincinnati Cyclones. Lexington is 16-15-5 and sitting in the final playoff spot for the Northwest Division.

Tuesday, December 31st –Lexington 1 at Wheeling 5

The Men O' War closed out their 2002 portion of the season with a 5-1 loss in Wheeling. The Nailers' Mike Valley made 33 saves in the winning effort. Four separate Wheeling players enjoyed two-point nights. Michel Ouellet led the Nailers with two goals and one assist. Mike Sgroi scored Lexington's lone goal. Bryce Wandler made his final appearance for the MOW stopping 23 of 28 Wheeling shots. The Nailers' win evened the season series 2-2.

Friday, January 3rd– Dayton 1 at Lexington 3

Brett Draney had a memorable return to Lexington on Friday night. Draney scored a goal and assisted on another as the Men O' War downed the Dayton Bombers 3-1. Draney had been on recall with the AHL's Utah Grizzlies. Dan Murphy returned from the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals stopping 28 of 29 shots for his sixth win of the year. Dayton out shot the MOW 29-16 in the loss.

Saturday, January 4th– Lexington 4 at Dayton 3 SO

The Lexington Men O' War put themselves two games over .500 for the first time in the team's short history with a dramatic 4-3 shootout road win in Dayton Saturday night. Dominic Periard scored the game-winner in the 8th round of the sudden death shootout. Dan Murphy stopped 32 shots in regulation and seven of eight in the shootout. The Men clinched the season series over the Bombers moving to 6-1-0 in seven games.

Sunday, January 5th – Lexington 1 at Peoria 4

The Peoria Rivermen got one goal and one assist from Trevor Baker and Randy Rowe en-route to a 4-1 win over the Men. Peoria's Duane Derksen stopped 34 of 35 Lexington shots as Peoria extended their record to 3-1 versus Lexington. Mike Sgroi and Jay Banach each combined for 37 penalty minutes and two ejections. Peoria and Lexington combined for 61 penalty minutes in the first period alone. The Rivermen out shot Lexington 44-35 for the game. Marc-Andre Thinel scored Lexington's only goal of the game. Dan Murphy took the loss in net stopping 40 of 43 Rivermen shots.

UPCOMING GAMES......

The Men will host Peoria in a re-match of Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Rivermen. Lexington won the last meeting in Rupp 5-2 over Peoria. The season series has combined for 27 fighting majors in four games. The Men travel to Johnstown on Saturday to meet the Chiefs for the first time since December 22nd. Lexington is 3-1 against the Chiefs. Sunday the Men close out the week with the third-place Cincinnati Cyclones. The Cyclones are 3-0 against the MOW this year and they lead the league averaging 4.18 goals per game. The Clones' have played the least amount of games in the league at 33, but are second in total goals scored at 138.

MOW TRACKS...

The Men O' War are tied for the ECHL lead having given up only one shorthanded goal this season...Lexington is 7-0-1 in their last eight home games...Mike Sgroi has moved into fourth in the league with 16 fighting majors, just four back of league leader Stu Pietersma (Miss). Jay Banach is second on the team with 10 majors in 29 games.
