Boardwalk Bullies Win in Shootout Friday, January 3, 2002
Johnstown Chiefs 3 @ ATLANTIC CITY BOARDWALK BULLIES 4 (shootout) The Boardwalk Bullies needed extra time past regulation for the eighth time in ten games. This time the Bullies proved victorious, defeating the Johnstown Chiefs in a shootout by a final of 4-3.
Scott Stirling stopped 35 Chiefs shots, and Jim Henkel tallied a goal and an assist in his return to the Bullies lineup after spending the weekend with the Cleveland Barons in the American Hockey League.
Jade Galbraith opened the scoring with a power-play tally in the first period and Shawn Maltby netted a goal on the man-advantage in the second period to put the Bullies up 2-0 early in the second period.
The Chiefs rebounded, scoring two second period goals separated by 16 seconds. Sam St. Pierre earned three points on a goal and two assists and netminder Peter Aubry made 43 saves against the Bullies.
In the shootout, the Bullies were two for four with blueliner Kirk Furey accounting for the winning goal. Stirling stopped four of five Johnstown shooters.
Bullies Earn Shutout Win Against Wheeling Saturday, January 4, 2003
ATLANTIC CITY BOARDWALK BULLIES 4 @ Wheeling Nailers 0 After playing eight of its last ten games with an extra period, the Bullies entered Saturday's game against the Wheeling Nailers with a want to turn things around. And did so with a 4-0 shutout win at the Wheeling Civic Center.
The usual suspects, Kevin Colley, Carl Corazzini, J.F. Caudron, Kirk Furey, Jim Henkel and Jade Galbraith each contributed his fair share, while Steve Munn, Mike Martiniello, and Mark Loeding each earned a point in the win.
Galbraith opened the one-sided offense with the game-winning power-play tally at 9:52 in the first period. Martiniello followed with his second goal of the season at 15:43.
All-Star selection Colley finished the game with a goal and an assist and the consistently solid defensive pairing of Munn and Furey chipped in with some offense; Munn earned an assist and Furey notched a helper on Galbraith's game winner and Colley's 24th goal of the year.
Goalie Matt Yeats stopped all 22 Nailers shots.
Bullies Beat Renegades, 5-2 Sunday, January 5, 2003
Richmond Renegades 2 @ ATLANTIC CITY BOARDWALK BULLIES 5 The Boardwalk Bullies defeated the Richmond Renegades by a final of 5-2. The regulation win marks the second in a row for the Atlantic City team that has played ten of its last 12 with at least an overtime period.
Kevin Colley earned three assists and J.F. Caudron and Carl Corazzini each tallied a goal and an assist in the Bullies' third win against the 'Gades this season. Gritty forward Shawn Maltby netted the game-winning goal on a power play with 58 seconds remaining in the second period. Corazzini followed up with his goal 17 seconds later to give the Bullies a three-goal cushion at the end of two frames.
Renegades' Lars Pettersen tallied an assist on Peter Hogan's and Alex Matieroukine's goal.
Scott Stirling finished the game with 30 saves. Richmond netminder Marc Magliarditi suffered the loss in net, allowing four goals and making 10 saves in the first two periods. Dan Lombard relieved Magliarditi in the third, and allowed one goal on just two Bullies shots.
BULLIES BITES The Bullies remain atop the Northeast Division, Northern Conference with a 22-7-9 record and 53 points in 38 games...All-Star representative Kevin Colley continues to lead the Bullies in scoring with 52 points (24G,28A)... Colley is tied for third in the league in scoring, tied for the league lead in goals with 24, and is tied for second in the league in power-play goals with 11...Jade Galbraith is fourth in the league in scoring among rookies with 33 points (13G,20A), and is tied for third in the league in assists among rookies with 20...Jim Henkel is on a seven-game point scoring streak with 11 points on four goals and seven assists in nine games stretching from December 18, 2002 to January 5, 2003...Henkel is tied for fifth in the league in scoring among rookies with 31 points (16G,15A), is third in goals among rookies with 16, leads the league among rookies with three short-handed goals, and is second in the league among rookies in plus-minus with a plus-20.
