January 6, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release

A "four games-in-five nights" stretch that capped a longer "seven-in-nine" sequence saw the Dayton Bombers Professional Hockey Team (12-19-7) go 0-3-1. In the four-game span, the Bombers, though outscored 13-6, outshot the opposition 141-105. Below is a review of this past week's Bombers' East Coast Hockey League contests:

12/31/02- BOMBERS 0 @ Peoria 2

Mathieu Chouinard stopped 40 shots, including 29 over the first two periods, as the Peoria Rivermen blanked the Dayton Bombers 2-0 in a New Year's Eve Contest at Carver Arena in Peoria, Illinois. Tyler Rennette scored a short-handed, first period goal for Peoria and added an assist on Darren Clark's second period, insurance marker for the game's only offense. The Bombers were 0 for 7 on the power play.

1/2/02 - Wheeling 4 @ BOMBERS 2

A pair of quick strikes helped Wheeling in this win. After Chris M.. Thompson gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead just 52 seconds into the game, the Nailers snatched the lead away, thanks to even strength goals 56 seconds apart by Mark Major and Dmitri Doulebenets. Ryan Vince tied the game with his 13th goal of the season at 16:58 of the first, but Arpad Mihaly and Steve Crampton connected within a 1:07 span in the third period to lift the Nailers. The Bombers outshot Wheeling 37-23. They were 0 for 7 with the man advantage.

1/3/02 - BOMBERS 1 @ Lexington 3

Despite outchancing the Men O'War and outshooting them 29-16, Lexington prevailed 3-1 at Rupp Arena. Brett Draney assisted on Ben Storey's first period power play goal, then tallied early in the second period to boost Lexington to a 2-0 advantage. Newcomer Jason Deskins blew a shot past Men O'War goalie Dan Murphy for his first goal in his first Bombers' game at 9:26 of the middle period, but the Bombers, despite outshooting Lexington 15-6 in the third, could not get the equalizer and allowed an empty-net goal with 14 seconds remaining by Marc-Andre Thinel. For the third consecutive game, the Bombers were 0 for 7 with the man advantage.

1/4/02 - Lexington 4 @ BOMBERS 3 (SO)

Defenseman Dominic Periard's goal in the eighth round of the shootout helped Lexington to a rare road win. The Bombers led 2-1 after one period of play, thanks to goals in the last three minutes of the first by defenseman Doug Nolan (end-to-end rush) and All-Star Andrew Ianiero (centering pass conversion), but the Men O'War utilized a 57 second spurt in the middle period by Ryan Fultz and Jared Smyth to grab a 3-2 lead. Jamie Ling banked in a carom off the end boards after defenseman Tom Nemeth's initial shot to tie the score at 7:32 to force the game to go beyond regulation. Each team went scoreless in the overtime and the shootout's first five rounds, but Alex Mathieu notched a goal in the sixth round, answered by Jamie Ling's goal through the legs of Dan Murphy. Then Periard would tally in the eighth round followed by an Ianiero miss to end the game. The Bombers were 0 for 6 on the power play, but once again outshot the Men O'War 35-28.

BOMBER BITES: Ryan Vince has points in 15 of his last 17 games (11-9-20). He is now tied for the team lead in goals (13) and points (28). He is also tied for the team lead (with defenseman Doug Nolan) in plus/minus (+2) among players who have been with the club all season ‚¬Â¦ Vince's recent 13-game point scoring streak is tied for the longest streak in the East Coast Hockey League this season ‚¬Â¦ The Bombers now have two players on their team from Ohio university hockey teams. Jason Deskins, who was added to the Bombers' roster prior to the team's game at Lexington (1/3), played his college hockey at Miami of Ohio in Oxford. Defenseman Jason Crain, who has been with the club since late November, played his college hockey at Ohio State University and was a frequent opponent of Deskins' Miami of Ohio Redhawks.
