Augusta Lynx News Release


The Lynx began the New Year with a win, a loss, and a tie. The Lynx remain in seventh in the Southeast Division with a record now standing at 11-21-2.

The Lynx hosted the Greenville Grrrowl Friday, January 3rd for the fourth meeting between the two teams. Lynx goalie David Brumby was credited with the shutout in the Lynx 2-0 victory over the Grrrowl. The game remained scoreless until the 6:34 mark of the second period when Lynx captain Brad Ralph found the back of the net with the Lynx down a man. He was assisted by Ryan Lauzon and Jay Leach. Leach secured the win for the Lynx late in the third period with his goal from Jeff Szwez and Martin Lapointe. The Lynx were 0-3 on the power play. Brumby stopped twenty-six shots en route to the win.

The Lynx returned to Florence, SC Saturday, January 4th to meet the Pee Dee Pride for the fourth time this season, the second in a week. Augusta got the early lead in the first period with a goal by Jim Shepherd from Leach and Lapointe, but they were unable to hold on as the Pride got four past Lynx goalie Brumby who made twenty-three saves. Pride goals were scored by Eric Naud, Kyle Kidney, and a pair by Greg Schmidt. The Lynx are now 1-3 versus the Pride this season. Both teams were 0-6 on the power play.

Sunday, January 5th the Charlotte Checkers traveled to Augusta winning 5-4 in a shoot-out. Augusta scored at the 1:04 mark of the first period on a goal by Jason Shmyr with Ralph and Lauzon being credited with the assist. Charlotte evened the score with a goal from Brandon Cullen and would take the lead with four seconds remaining in the first period when David Inman scored a power play goal. Lynx newcomer Mike Legg recorded his first goal with the Lynx to bring the score to 2-2. Patrick Yetman and Leach recorded the assists on the goal. Charlotte would take the lead again with a goal by Allan Egeland, but Augusta's Lance Galbraith fought back to even the score. Josh St. Louis and Shepherd were credited with the assist on the goal. Lauzon's goal from Mark Thompson and Ralph put the Lynx on top with a score of 4-3, but the Checkers's power play goal from David Inman even the score, forcing overtime. Neither team could find the back of the net in the overtime, forcing a shoot-out. Augusta's Lauzon and Williamson made their shots but the Checkers made four of their goals getting the win. The Augusta Lynx were 0-12 on the power play while the Checkers were 2-7. Brumby made twenty-four saves in sixty-five minutes of play.

Player of the Week: Assistant Captain Jay Leach notched four points this week from one goal and three assists. He ended the week with a plus three rating.

Goaltender of the Week: David Brumby was 1-1-1 for the week recording a shutout and his first win of the season. He had a GAA of 2.92 and a Save Percentage of 0.890.

The Lynx would like to thank its fans for donating 619 new golf balls to the First Tee Organization in Augusta. The Lynx foundation will be presenting First Tee with a check for $619 along with the golf balls at Saturday's game.

Tuesday, January 7: The Lynx travel to Florence, SC to take on the Pee Dee Pride with a game time of 7:00 pm at the Florence City-County Civic Center.

Wednesday, January 8: Join the Lynx and Willie O'Ree, the "Jackie Robinson of Hockey," at the Family Y for a free hockey clinic and a lecture on "Success in Life" at 7 pm at the Family Y center on Wheeler Road.

Thursday, January 9: "The Locker Room Report" airs at 8:30 pm on Comcast Channel 4.

Friday, January 10: The Lynx travel to Charlotte to take on the Checkers at Cricket Arena. Game time is 7:35 pm.

Saturday, January 11: The Lynx host the Florida Everblades with a game time of 7:35 pm at the Augusta Richmond-County Civic Center. The first 1500 fans will receive a seat cushion courtesy of Petsch Respiratory Services.

Sunday, January 12: The Everblades remain in Augusta. Game time is 4:05 pm at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.
