Stanley Cup Coming To Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced today that the Stanley Cup will be on display at the Long Beach Arena for the Ice Dogs games on March12th and13th. All fans in attendance will have the opportunity to see professional hockey's most coveted asset as the Cup will be making it's first ever trip to Long Beach.

The Stanley Cup is the oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes in North America. It was donated by Frederick Arthur, Lord Stanley of Preston in 1893 and was originally presented to the amateur hockey champions of Canada. It has been awarded to the champion of the National Hockey League each year since 1926-27 and has been under the exclusive control of the NHL since 1947.

Fans will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the Cup where it will be displayed in the arena atrium. On Saturday the 12th they will play the Alaska Aces at 7 PM, and on Sunday the 13th they will play the Las Vegas Wranglers at 5 PM. The Aces' Scott Gomez has his name on the Cup from the 2002-2003 season when his New Jersey Devils defeated the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in seven games.

The NHL affiliate of the Ice Dogs, the Montreal Canadiens, have won the Cup more than any other team, 23 times. Some of the noteworthy names engraved on the Cup include Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Ken Dryden, and Bobby Orr. For ticket information, call (562) ICE-DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com.
